Rep. Joe Barton (R-TX): Impeachment 'A Possibility' If Obama Moves Ahead On Immigration EO

Source: Talking Points Memo & Buzz Feed

Rep. Joe Barton (R-TX) said on Monday that impeaching President Obama "would be a consideration" if he moves forward unilaterally on immigration.

Barton's comments were made during an interview with former Rep. J.D. Hayworth (R-AZ), who now hosts NewsMaxTV's right wing program "America's Forum."

Barton was asked about the possibility that Obama could take executive action to slow deportations.

“Well impeachment is indicting in the House and that’s a possibility. But you still have to convict in the Senate and that takes a two-thirds vote," Barton said. "But impeachment would be a consideration, yes sir."

And I am even betting $100 right now that impeachment won't even happen - they'll be infighting too much to give a fuck.

I bet we'll even see some defections to the Democratic Party after the infighting produces absolutely nothing, and the reps needs to calm the voters down.

...they're not retarded. Or maybe they are? I don't know.

If it is like you say, my only concern then would be the idea of it ensuring another Repub in the White House in 2016. It's been pointed out before that every party that impeached always won the White House in the next election (ex. the Dems after Nixon, the Repubs after Clinton, etc.). But then I guess Bush wasn't really elected, but that's another story altogether.

Try this on for size:

A few of our most progressive Dems in the House should draw up their own articles which charge with the failure to prosecute BushCo for war crimes. Grayson or somebody should totally beat them to the punch on it with this!

Can you imagine the teabagger heads that would be blowing up left and right? LOL!!!

I can see a legal challenge to an executive order. Slight chance it might find it's way to the Supreme Court, and then maybe the Extreme Court says, "Nope. the POTUS can't do that". And then purely hypothetical since it would not happen in any of the parallel universes where the sky on Earth is a shade of blue, President Obama then defies the Court. Then you could start to hold some hearings that would create something other than face-palms.

Or we can just admit that this is nothing but pandering to the KKK/Birther voters.

Like Joe says, they need two thirds of the Senate to convict. No way they'll get enough Democrats to go along. And anyway, they wouldn't want to get stuck with Biden.

Tue Nov 11, 2014, 12:44 PM
Nov 2014

The decision to impeach will be up to John Boehner. He can either take a stand and not allow this motion to get to the floor of the house where it will surely pass or he can just put his hands up and say I allowed the process to go forward. It will die in the Senate because the republicans do not have 67 votes to pass it. I want to say that Boehner will not let it go forward but he feels emboldened by the mid term results and it will give the rabid part of his party the red meat they are looking for. As for the legal grounds to impeach, how about the fact that Obama is a democrat, a black man and he has failed to do what the republicans have told him to do. What court of law is going to stop this kangaroo court from convening in January?
