Obama chides GOP Congress, heckler ousted in Vegas speech
Source: Las Vegas Review-Journal
Mounting an offensive in Las Vegas behind his immigration directives, President Barack Obama on Friday insisted House Republicans must take up a comprehensive immigration overhaul but said the system is so unfair that it needs the type of fixes that he initiated on his own.
Our immigration system has been broken for a very long time and everybody knows it, he said. We cant afford it anymore.
Speaking at the Del Sol High School where he launched his drive for Congress to send him an immigration bill, Obama outlined steps he has taken to help millions of people living in the country illegal. The measures are designed to make nearly 5 million of those immigrants eligible for protection from deportation and for work permits.
But he cautioned that his actions are limited and that only broader legislation would permanently change immigration laws and help the more than 11 million immigrants illegally in the United States.

(5,668 posts)Nevada is one rather RED state. and for some reason has the highest amount of illegals there. which just points out that until 2008, generally Republicans (not tea part) courted illegals to push their legal relatives to vote for them. viola. and up until 2009 I was generally very anti illegal until something my uncle said changed my mind in a hurry. (I won't repeat that again) So by the time my cousin married someone from Mexico the war within the family on the issue was in full blown effect. Dad refused to go to his own cousins wedding, mom stood by dad, although she later regretted it. Brother was changing to where I used to be. But he went. Not happy but he went. All this crap because dad wasn't going for a wedding where the only people who'd show up would be hispanic and 2. the marriage wouldn't last a year. Yeah one side that did show up... the Jewish side. en mass. Huge show up of total whites. Only 2 Bartholomews other than my cousins parents and grandmother showed up. nothing but Kramers for the eye to see. Met relative cousins I'd never met before. Very nice. And of course all this happened in August 2011. Now more than 3 yrs ago. So 2 thinks dad said would pass never did. But I didn't go for all that. I went because my cousin was family. and she lived nearby. I have two in Colorado. Bit hard for me. Heck very hard for mom to visit her sister who just had neck surgery. But twin cities. thats close enough. no excuse not to go. So because of the insanity of the right I ended up becoming a bit more pro immigration than I planned on. smh What goes around comes around

(3,626 posts)the heckler was not "ousted", according to the article at link. He left on his own, after the president responded to his comments. Anyway, it's wonderful to see our fired-up president again.
