Union for N.J. state workers says it will hold off on walkout

Source: North Jersey

BY MICHAEL PHILLIS

Union leadership said they it would not instruct workers at the state Department of Children and Families to stay home on Tuesday, after raising the possibility of a walkout in a message to its members last week citing safety concerns related to the stabbing of a colleague last month.

“Based on the expedited plan presented to us, we have agreed to hold off on further action at this time,” said a letter signed by leadership of CWA Local 1039 said.

In mid November, Leah Coleman was stabbed in the Camden office of the Division of Children Protection and Permanency days after security officers were removed from local offices. She was released from the hospital on Monday, according to the union’s Monday’s letter.

After the stabbing, a union official told The Associated Press that the only security staff in the office at the time of the attack was the receptionist.

A spokesman for Governor Christie, said a work stoppage would have been harmful. Getting stabbed isn't harmful?

Sounds like they can't afford NOT to have it!

What will Governor Soprano do for an encore -- replace New Jersey's fire engines with Super Soakers?
