Source: CBS St. Louis
ST. LOUIS, Mo. (CBS ST. LOUIS) A GOP lawmaker in Missouri introduced a bill that requires pregnant women to receive written consent from the father of the child before an abortion can be performed or in exceptional cases of legitimate rape.
State Representative Rick Brattin, a Republican from outside Kansas City, filed the bill on Dec. 3 that proposes, No abortion shall be performed or induced unless and until the father of the unborn child provides written, notarized consent to the abortion.

When the oceans rise, we can wave bye bye as they slip beneath the swells.

What if the daddy wants an abortion and the mother doesn't? Even if they are married? You never hear about that.

(6,241 posts)that she was raped. So if you get pregnant, it must mean that you wanted the sex, therefore, it wasn't rape. Isn't that special?
But on this case, it's just that you have to actually be raped to get an abortion. You have to file a police report, get a rape kit done, get pregnant after the rape, and the burden is on you to prove that it was rape. If all of the above happens, then and only then can you have it done.

(115,681 posts)Thats just common sense. Under his bill, he notes, you have to take steps to show that you were raped And Id think youd be able to prove that.
christx30
(6,241 posts)and there are thousands of untested rape kits. Backdoor ban, no doubt about it.
Might as well pass some abortion clinic regulations that say a unicorn or a centaur must be employed as a security guard.

(18,874 posts)It's something like $1,000. Lots of women can't afford this so they just don't do it.
I don't have figures on where this may true.

(13,390 posts)Or, if daddy admits to fatherhood in order for her to have the abortion, is he then subject to prosecution? On the other hand if the girl has the baby she delivers evidence of daddy's crime. How angry might daddy be about this catch 22?
They simply don't care what kind of danger she could be in.

(20,771 posts)It will be challenged, legally.
And overturned.
The state will appeal.
I eventually want the Supreme Court to have to deal with a crappily-written attempt to deprive women of control over their own bodies, because with something this badly-written, they'd have no choice but to overturn it, and there's a precedent.
With that asshole Roberts' name on it.

(2,969 posts)What if she's had multiple partners and doesn't know who the father is?
What if she got pregnant during a one night stand and the father is long gone?
What if the father doesn't provide consent? She's forced to take a pregnancy to full term because some schmuck is being an asshole?
Women don't get pregnant. Men get women pregnant. "Don't worry, baby, I'll pull out in time." "Don't worry, baby, I've had a vasectomy."
Women in some cases don't have full control over whether or not they get pregnant. So, they should have absolute control over whether or not they bring a pregnancy to term.
Activist anti-abortionists are pure, nauseating assholes. I can respect the pro-life perspective to the extent that - if you're opposed to abortion, then don't have one. And impart that as a personal, moral value throughout your family.
But when you reach out into the statutory space that affects all of society's ability to control every aspect of their own family planning - up to and including the RIGHT to terminate an unwanted pregnancy - then you're an imperialistic, arrogant, hypocritical, selfish, pompous, holier-than-thou asshat.

It was a backlash against 17 year olds getting labeled sex offenders for life for having sex with their 15 year old girlfriends. Since Todd Akin, it's now considered ridiculous, so it doesn't matter what the original thinking behind it was.

(9,275 posts)This was the abortion restrictions attempted in PA by the late Gov. Casey (father of Sen. Bob Casey) in 1992 that went to SCOTUS and gave us the "undue burden" standard. One part of the law that was thrown out was a requirement that a married woman have her husband's permission. Even 22 years ago most people said "what century are we in again?!" to that one.

(9,275 posts)In Casey, SCOTUS allowed parental notification to stand, reasoning that a parent had rights over their minor child, but threw out the husband-notification part on grounds of 1 adult having no authority over another. Of course given today's reactionary and misogynistic Court, who knows.

When a man goes in for that procedureat least in the state of Missouriyou have to have a consent form from your spouse in order to have that procedure done, he told MoJo. Here I was getting a normal procedure that has nothing to do with another human beings life, and I needed to get a signed form
But on ending a life, you dont. I think thats pretty twisted.
