Lawmaker compares Obama to Hitler in tweet on Paris attack
Source: AP
WASHINGTON A Texas congressman drew criticism Tuesday for a tweet that used the world's response to terrorist attacks in Paris as an opportunity to compare President Barack Obama to Adolf Hitler.
Rep. Randy Weber's official account, @TXRandy14, tweeted on Tuesday night: "Even Adolph Hitler thought it more important than Obama to get to Paris. (For all the wrong reasons.) Obama couldn't do it for right reasons"
The tweet juxtaposes Hitler's visit to the vanquished city after his troops invaded in World War II, andObama's failure to join dozens of world leaders at an anti-terror march through Paris on Sunday.
The White House has acknowledged that Obama or another high-level representative of the U.S. should have joined the march in unity with the French following attacks that left 17 people dead. The absence was widely noted, and heavily criticized by congressional Republicans.

(54,448 posts)Every Republican member of Congress, Governor and pundit making this comparison needs to be filmed and archived in alphabetical and chronological order to be brought out to show their level of discourse in 2016.
I realize that 25% of America will cheer them on, but it might open the eyes of a few undecideds to reconsider the choices before them.

(112,505 posts)Updated at 1:38 p.m.: Republican Rep. Randy Weber has apologized for his tweet comparing President Barack Obama to Adolf Hitler. He said he was sorry to those offended and did not mean to make the comparison or trivialize the Holocaust.
The mention of Hitler was meant to represent the face of evil that still exists in the world today, Weber said in a written statement. I now realize that the use of Hitler invokes pain and emotional trauma for those affected by the atrocities of the Holocaust and victims of anti-Semitism and hate.
He went on to say that the Paris attacks are a reminder that Islamic extremists have shown they are not going away, and instead are hungry for more blood.
The statement came just a few hours after Weber, in an interview with The Dallas Morning News, stood by his tweet, which hes now deleted.

(14,178 posts)Its a stupid premise because he uses the term "EVEN'.
I am assuming he wanted to say something more like..."Hitler got himself to Paris for all the wrong reasons, Obama couldn't get to Paris for all the right reasons." But that too is still awkward and wrong on so many levels.
But in a kind of Freudian slip maybe, given his ties to White Supremacists, he elevates Hitler by prefixing his introduction into his statement with the "EVEN". It implies that Hitler is far from the worst (or best?) example he could have used. Its all so wrong and confused.

(1,727 posts)Why didn't all the Republicans in Congress go and march with the citizens of Paris or for the photo opportunity? Did they all sign the condolences book at the French Embassy? Have they printed any Charlie cartoons on their websites in solidarity with free speech? Are "Freedom Fries" still served in the Congressional cafeteria? Or have they gone back to French Fries. What hypocrites.
