Video Shows Man Shot By New Jersey Police Raising His Hands
Source: Associated Press
BRIDGETON, N.J. (AP) -- Another police killing is stirring anger in another town, this time in New Jersey, where a tense traffic stop captured on video ended with a passenger shot to death as he stepped out of a car with his hands raised at shoulder height.
The newly released footage from a police dashboard camera shows Bridgeton officers Braheme Days and Roger Worley in a Dec. 30 stop that escalates quickly after Days warns his partner about seeing a gun in the glove compartment of the Jaguar.
Days screams over and over at the passenger, Jerame Reid, "Show me your hands!" and "If you reach for something, you're going to be f------ dead!" The officer appears to reach into the car and remove the gun. But the brief standoff ends with Reid disregarding Days' order to not move, stepping out and getting shot.
The shooting has touched off protests in Bridgeton, a struggling city of about 25,000 people - two-thirds of them black or Hispanic - 35 miles from Philadelphia. The case came after months of turbulent demonstrations and violence over the killings of unarmed black men by white police officers in New York and Ferguson, Missouri.

Besides, it's not like they are penalized if they make a mistake and someone gets hurt or dies. Just all part of their "dangerous" job.

2. He accidentally grabbed the gun instead of the taser (Johannes Mehserle, about fatally shooting Oscar Grant, Fruitvale incident)
3. "The best explanation that I have is that my ... brain was saying Taser and ... but my body moved faster than my brain,"
4. "she tried to use a Taser but instead drew her Glock handgun and fatally shot Torres"

The headline implies that the police were busy coming up around the guy and raising his hands with their own, while some unidentified person(s) shot him! Come on now! If I'm just some fat schlub who noticed that immediately, you mean to tell me that the AP would keep someone on their staff who let something that obvious -- and stupid -- slip?
How about "Video Shows Man With His Hands Raised Shot by New Jersey Police," fer chrissakes??
And now that I have vented my spleen about the lousy grammar, I must ask just how much longer we're going to let the police get away with this shit before the whole country looks like Ferguson, MO? How many more people need to lose parts of their family?

(28,270 posts)If you are a black male in this country, the cops are gunning for you. Follow their direction and still get shot down in cold blood.
The cops use all black faces of real people for target practice in Florida!
I'm sure an all white jury will let the killer cop walk, if it even gets to a trial which I doubt.

(1,290 posts)Gee, no profiling there. None of us who are white would have been pulled over for rolling through that stop sign. He stopped just like all of us do. Except we as whites do not get pulled over.

A handgun was also recovered from the car.
I'm white and female and was pulled over twice for doing a rolling stop. Never a good idea to do that right in front of a cop. Rolling stops aren't legal stops, and police have every right to pull you over when you don't come to a complete stop at a stop sign.
