Senate votes 98-1 that climate change is 'not a hoax'

Source: The Week

The Senate was set to vote on a bill to approve the Keystone XL pipeline today, but first it voted on a couple amendments. One of these was pure symbolism, stipulating that climate change is "real and not a hoax." Oddly, even the fervent anti-environmentalist James Inhofe (R-Okla.) voted for it, first claiming on Twitter that the amendment actually affirmed climate change was a hoax, then later arguing that the hoax was not climate change itself, but whether it is caused by humans (it is).

Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) was the lone vote against.

Last night on RS I heard that he is going to have eye surgery soon, maybe today? But soon as he is in danger of losing sight in his right eye due in part to damage from the accident due to broken bone around his eye.

have to live as long in the shit storm that is here already. i live in Alaska and have seen a December in the 40's and a January where it is just now getting down toward zero but we haven't hit it. We have no snow.

Usual December through March where I live: -10 to -30 with between 4-8 feet of snow. I am down to nothing here. I dread the future and because they had their chance to bury us all, this vote actually brings tears to my eyes.

They can't stand against any environmental initiatives because of their insistence that it isn't happening. They ended that today. I feel slightly better for the young ones now. Thanks for this post.

Glad you're here! This is most interesting. I'm actually surprised the vote was as lopsided as it was. I thought the knuckle-draggers and other members of the Heads-in-the-Sand Gang would have dared to show more strength.

If we accept that Climate Change is a problem, it doesn't matter what the immediate cause is. What matters is what we can do about it, and the only thing we can do is modify the human influences.
