They say getting into a food fight with Trump would diminish Bush, the two-time Florida governor who is a leading contender for the Republican presidential nomination.
But Bush also cant sit back and let Trumps barbs go unchallenged, Republican operatives say, so he will have to pick his battles as the 2016 races unfolds.
So far, Bush has jabbed at Trump occasionally, without being dragged into a full-fledged feud.
The even-handed approach seems to be paying off, as Bushs poll numbers have surged in the past few weeks.

Trump is taking his cue from right-wing hate radio, conspiracy web sites, Fox News and the paranoid billionaire clubs.
And guess what? He is winning in Republican polls.
Republicans have fed and encouraged a base of cranks, haters and the ignorant, and now that base controls the whole damn party.
