Historic Iran nuke deal resets Eurasia’s ‘Great Game': Escobar

This is it. It is indeed historic. And diplomacy eventually wins. In terms of the New Great Game in Eurasia, and the ongoing tectonic shifts reorganizing Eurasia, this is huge: Iran — supported by Russia and China — has finally, successfully, called the long, winding 12-year-long Atlanticist bluff on its “nuclear weapons.”

And this only happened because the Obama administration needed 1) a lone foreign policy success, and 2) a go at trying to influence at least laterally the onset of the new Eurasia-centered geopolitical order.

So here it is – the 159-page, as detailed as possible, Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA); the actual P5+1/Iran nuclear deal. As Iranian diplomats have stressed, the JCPOA will be presented to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), which will then adopt a resolution within 7 to 10 days making it an official international document.

Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif has described the deal — significantly — as a very Chinese “win-win” solution. But not perfect; “I believe this is a historic moment. We are reaching an agreement that is not perfect for anybody but is what we could accomplish. Today could have been the end of hope, but now we are starting a new chapter of hope.”

The embattled Syrian President has expressed his support for the nuclear deal as a victory for his government's key ally, Iran.

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad congratulated key ally Iran on reaching a nuclear deal with world powers on Tuesday, calling the agreement a "great victory". In a message to Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Assad said he was "happy that the Islamic Republic of Iran has achieved a great victory by reaching an agreement", state news agency SANA reported.

"In the name of the Syrian people, I congratulate you and the people of Iran on this historic achievement," he added in another message addressed to Iranian President Hassan Rouhani.

Assad said that the deal would be a "major turning point in the history of Iran, the region and the world." He added that it provided "clear recognition on the part of world powers of the peaceful nature of Iran's nuclear programme, while preserving the national rights of your people and confirming the sovereignty of the Islamic Republic of Iran."

ISTANBUL: The full implementation of the nuclear deal between Iran and six world powers is of vital importance for the peace, security and stability of the region, the Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement today.

The ministry said it welcomed the agreement and congratulated the parties involved, saying it expected cooperation to be put into practice with full transparency in supervising the deal.

Iran's nuclear deal is "great news" for the Turkish economy as it is likely to boost bilateral trade, Turkish Finance Minister Mehmet Simsek said.

"Iran’s nuclear deal is a great news for the Turkish economy," he wrote in English on his official Twitter account.

The Kremlin likes the Iran deal.

In fact, Putin took some serious credit for it.

"The deal on Iran nuclear program is based on the approach articulated by President Vladimir Putin," the Russian Foreign Ministry tweeted on Tuesday.

Putin added, in a statement released by the Kremlin, that the deal is means that its "bilateral relations with Iran will receive a new impetus and will no longer be influenced by external factors."

In fact I'm pretty sure some of them can't.

Assuming the other parties to the deal are OK with it, I could give a shit what the Congress thinks.

However, the trend here on treaties is that Congress should be able to amend them instead of voting them up or down.
