... As the federal government shifted in favor of racial integration, many Southerners rallied around the flag. The Dixiecrats, a faction of Southern Democrats that fervently advocated segregation and the preservation of the Southern "way of life," or as many call it, "heritage," embraced it as their symbol. Coincidently, as efforts to desegregate the South moved forward, many southern states adopted the Confederate flag to represent, in various ways, their polity. South Carolina began flying the Confederate battle flag above their capitol in 1961 ... The Confederate battle flag is absolutely a symbol of white supremacy ... (28,946 posts)That is something to be proud of. Mark Twain, Truman Capote, Johnny Cash, Louie Armstrong, so many more. Jazz, country, rock and some of the most evocative short stories and novels ever written.
That should be run up a flag pole.
