BEIJING: The chairman of China First Heavy Industries, the country's major nuclear plant maker, has committed suicide in the face of investigation by anti-corruption inspectors.

Besides being the chairman of the company since 2008, Wu was also the deputy head of the Communist party's unit in First Heavy's parent company, the China First Heavy Industries (Group) Co. All state owned Chinese companies have a Communist Party unit, which supervises the work of the company on behalf of the party.
This is the first case of an high official or head of a state-owned corporation committing suicide in the middle of anti-graft probe since the campaign to clean public life was launched three years back.
Most convicted officials have either signed statements or appeared on state television admitting their guilt. The incident is expected to have wider ramifications in China's state-owned business sector because First Heavy Industries was closely related to the military, observers said.
