Urban Dictionary's definitions of Democratic Underground

Last edited Sun Aug 30, 2015, 02:03 PM - Edit history (1)

Top Definition:

DEMOCRATIC UNDERGROUND:
"A Democratic party supporter's website that is a gathering place for politics obsessed misanthropes who seethe with impotent rage at their complete lack of power and control over the American people.
The posters at Democratic Underground all seem to be bourgeois lefty political gropers in various stages of mental illness.
Paranoia reigns supreme there, as does self-loathing, hatred of people in general, a strident belief in complex conspiracies which dominate and thwart them at every turn, and a desperate need to believe that all of their problems in life are someone else's fault."

# 2 Definition:

DEMOCRATIC UNDERGROUND
"A place for Democrats and liberals with closed minds.
It has 70,000 members, yet they all sound the same.
The basic message is: 'Fuck Bush, fuck Republicans, fuck Howard Dean, fuck anyone with a differing opinion, oh god, the world is going to end'.
A place for people who preach dissent, preach diversity, preach tolerance yet will cruch (sic) you in a heart beat if you say anything that don't agree with.(sic)
Also a place for people who like to bitch endlessly but don't like to fix any problems.
'It doesn't matter how much I hate George W. Bush because I also hate John Kerry, so I am not welcome at the Democratic Underground'
If you are a true liberal, you should probably steer clear of the Democratic Underground."

There are more definitions of DU at Urban Dictionary; but the 5th one:down is my favorite:

DEMOCRATIC UNDERGROUND:
"A web-based forum/community with but one goal:
'Overthrowing the American Republic and replacing it with a communist dictatorship.'
DU is the web-based forum/community for the US communist party without actually calling itself communist.
Being or liking a mainstream democrat like Joe Lieberman is not allowed on DU.
You are only allowed to post if you are at least as leftist as Karl Marx.
Democratic Underground wants a US communist state so that all opponents of the communists (republicans, conservatives, moderates, independents, mainstream democrats)
can be put in gulags or simply shot.
DU worships Lenin, Castro, Chavez, Saddam, and any nutcase willing to say the words:
'I hate the US' (or alternatively: 'I hate Bush)"

My favorite quote from all the top Urban Dictionary definitions of DU is this line from # 5:
"Being or liking a mainstream democrat like Joe Lieberman is not allowed on DU."

I read what Urban Underground says about "Free Republic"

(I don't think I have the stomach to actually go to the "Free Republic" website.)

But I just now went to the "Republican Underground" website; and found it to be just a single page with three quotations on it.

REPUBLICAN UNDERGROUND.com

God Bless America

"Glory is not a conceit...It is not a decoration for valor....Glory belongs to the act of being constant to something greater than yourself, to a cause. to your principles, to the people on whom you rely and who rely on you in return."
John Mccain (sic)

"My fellow citizens, the American presidency is not supposed to be a journey of 'personal discovery'...This world of threats and dangers is just a community, and it doesn't just need an organizer."
Sarah Palin

"It's not surprising, then, they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations."
Barack Obama

I can't stand his monotone voice.
Makes me want to pull out the hair atop my head,
and I've none to spare.

A forum of patriotic citizens who are against the stolen elections, wars and American Empire.

Who are somewhat environmentalistic, true Democrats, and are a leading force in US politics, but not elite or showy, because they are indeed Underground when it comes to the cream of the crop in politics who enable stolen elections, wars, and American empire.

Well, mainstream Democrats are to the right of British, right-wing Tories, albeit because the latter are subject to greater constraints in the short-term - though they are always working to quash and counter them.

And guess what? Strange to relate, Ollie North is not viewed as a patriot here, nor global, economic apocalypse maestro, Milton Freedman.

...which was before he lost the Democratic Party primary election for US Senator in that year.
However, he won the general election in November 2006 under the "Connecticut for Lieberman" label.
Lieberman himself was never a member of that party, but instead remained a registered Democrat while he ran.
Lieberman was officially listed in Senate records for the 110th and 111th Congress as an
"Independent Democrat"
He made a speech at the 2008 Republican National Convention in which he endorsed John McCain for president; yet the Senate Democratic Caucus allowed Lieberman to keep chairmanship of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Government Affairs.
He retired from the Senate in January 2013 when his term ran out.

I had gangrene during 2006 and had to quit my job (not because of the gangrene tho) as well. I was a bit preoccupied for a while.
That he got away with all that is a little disappointing (note the use of understatement).
