Driverless trucks, trains and pilotless planes

There's a commonly told joke among pilots about the "cockpit of the future".

The flight deck will contain one human and one dog. The pilot will be there to scan the instruments, and the dog will bite his hand if he touches anything.

The flying public might find that a bit far-fetched. But the reality of 21st-century commercial aviation is that pilots spend the vast majority of their time in flight overseeing complex computer systems rather than actually flying the plane by hand.

On a commercial flight these days, whether an hour-long hop between Sydney and Melbourne or a 14-hour flight across the Pacific, it is possible a pilot will spend as little as one minute touching the control stick.

They dont have to be perfect, just better than humans, and that day is quickly comming.

I dont see planes without a pilot any time soon, but I think planes with one pilot will be around soon.

Well a certain party who will remain unnamed (unless you guessed GOP then you would be correct) has worked tirelessly to relieve entire segments of our society of that most onerous of duties, voting. Thank you for your intervention on our behalf.
