Ben Carson Versus Those Highfalutin Scientists

http://www.germantownnow.com/blogs/communityblogs/340106781.html

"...

According to several recent national polls, the current Republican presidential front runner is retired surgeon Dr. Ben Carson. An October St. Norbert poll found that Carson also leads in Wisconsin. How does the current GOP presidential leader measure-up on comprehension of basic science? Surely someone with a medical degree has been exposed to enough basic science courses to at least have an appreciation and rudimentary understanding of science. Right?

Wrong. In instance after instance, Ben Carson has exhibited not only an appalling ignorance of basic science, but an outright denial of it. For example, in a revealing 2012 speech, Carson rejected one of the cornerstones of modern Astronomy, the Big Bang theory.

...

Even in medicine, Carson's grasp of science is suspect. He has come under fire for his role as a spokesman for a quackish supplement company that claims to have a cure for autism and cancer.

So Ben Carson, the current GOP front runner-a man who wants to make technological decisions for the US, a man who would oversee the spending of $135 billion in R&D-thinks the devil had a hand in Darwinian evolution. He thinks that the Big Bang is a fairy tale from some highfalutin scientists. He thinks that there was a worldwide flood. He doesn't believe in the fact of human-caused global heating. He was a spokesman for a quack medicine company. He thinks that much of modern science is "propaganda".

I don't think so, but nothing makes me happy to say that. The guy didn't use calculus when operating, nor did he have to demonstrate a grasp of scientific principles to get where he was in his specialty, would be my guess.

Plus he's completely bonkers.

How in the hell does such an individual get so much support to become the President? WOW! Oh, goodness. And then there's Trump. We are so you know what.

and the Adventist faith, like other religions, brings in a LOT of money. Here is, for example, an article contrasting the SDA church with another less mainstream - the LDS (Mormon) church.

In contrast, the Seventh-day Adventist Church, which had about 17 million members a year ago, appears to be getting a better return on investment: It builds smaller meeting houses and lots of schools and hospitals, and its numbers are swelling faster than the Mormons', said Stewart. The Adventists claim a million new members join annually, compared with every three years or so for the Mormons.

"The Seventh-day Adventists clearly have a much more expansive humanitarian project in terms of building hospitals and medical schools and schools and universities and long-term developmental infrastructure around the world," said Stewart. "It's paid off for them."

Apparently, there is some dissension among SDAs about his running for President, so there is no full-fledged endorsement from the SDAa. Here is their "official" statement (http://www.adventistreview.org/church-news/story2602-adventist-church-in-north-america-issues-statement-on-ben-carsons-u.s.-presidential-bid). Some of the posts in response are quite interesting. And then there is this: https://www.facebook.com/AdventistOpposedToBenjaminCarsonForPresident/

Here is an interesting article about his faith from the Times of Israel. http://www.timesofisrael.com/ben-carson-is-a-seventh-day-adventist-heres-why-it-matters/

Whatever else, he is a full-fledged nutcase. I fervently hope that his 15 minutes are over soon, but considering the whole of the GOPer field, I won't hold my breath!
