A Trumped-up war on Christmas

Ben Carson bravely posted a photo of himself on his Facebook page holding a sign reading ... “Not afraid to say Merry Christmas!” ... “Do you realize that Starbucks wanted to take Christ and Christmas off of their brand new cups? That’s why they’re just plain red,” complained a man named Joshua Feuerstein ... Feuerstein failed to explain how the pagan symbols of snowmen, snowflakes and Christmas trees — which have appeared on past Starbucks cups — ever constituted a celebration or affirmation of Jesus ... Donald Trump suggested his followers boycott Starbucks and promised, “If I become president, we’re all going to be saying ‘Merry Christmas’ again. That I can tell you!” ... The “War on Christmas” brigade is also upset that the city of Plantation ... filed a lawsuit to recoup the costs of shutting down streets outside the home of two residents who host an annual Christmas display billed as “Hyatt Extreme Christmas.” The garish, Disney-like spectacle includes blow-up Santa Claus statues, animated reindeer, a 20-foot ferris wheel, a gingerbread house and a nativity scene. “After years of arguing with the Hyatts to scale back the display, the city sued this year to quash the spectacle, which the city considers a neighborhood nuisance” Florida’s Sun Sentinel reported. This perfectly reasonable complaint is somehow proof of enmity toward Christmas ...
