Robert Reich: Are We Witnessing The Death Of America’s Political Establishment?

Step back from the campaign fray for just a moment and consider the enormity of what’s already occurred.

A 74-year-old Jew from Vermont who describes himself as a democratic socialist, who wasn’t even a Democrat until recently, has come within a whisker of beating Hillary Clinton in the Iowa caucus, routed her in the New Hampshire primary, and garnered over 47 percent of the caucus-goers in Nevada, of all places.

And a 69-year-old billionaire who has never held elective office or had anything to do with the Republican Party has taken a commanding lead in the Republican primaries.

Something very big has happened, and it’s not due to Bernie Sanders’ magnetism or Donald Trump’s likeability.

It’s a rebellion against the establishment.

The question is why the establishment has been so slow to see this. A year ago – which now seems like an eternity – it proclaimed Hillary Clinton and Jeb Bush shoe-ins.

and an atrophied sense of actually politicking the real voter. The dumbest thing they ever did was acquiesce to Hillary's inevitability(was this some 8 year old deal from 2008?) and negate any broad primary as if that would be too divisive. Well, now they have a candidate who very well may not win and one who who will negate their entire centrist leadership scam.

Now we have frantic cowardice, and later maybe truculent cowardice as they -not the fed up Trump voter -would just as soon see the country burn to the ground.

Things are great!

More money and more power are ours. The majority are in disarray, they willingly succumbed to the war on terror which was a war on them and their kind, they gladly paid $4 a gallon for gas, they pay their taxes, they allow global warming and the destruction of the environment.

We own them. We control them, They fear us. Life is good if you are establishment and play along.

That's how they see us. But the internet has snuck us in and we ain't leaving anytime soon.

that they didn't think anyone would notice the cancerous corruption in the Democratic Party that was uncomfortably similar to what the GOP does as a matter of principle.
