In the past year, everything and nothing has changed for Bernie Sanders.

The one-time Democratic dark horse has gradually become a top-tier contender for the presidential nomination, with recent polls in New Hampshire and Iowa showing him neck-and-neck with – or even leading – rival Hillary Clinton.

Yet in his heart and home the Vermont senator remains the same down-to-earth "Bernster" – as his son, Levi, lovingly refers to him – he's always been. And that much was plain to see when PEOPLE stopped by to visit Sanders and his family at his modest colonial home in Burlington, Vermont, last month.

4. Why is it relevant?

Because he probably knows how much a box of clothes washing detergent costs. If he does his own laundry he knows that it is a time consuming task, one of many tasks that poor and middle class people do themselves because they don't have someone to do it for them. It's a small indication that he is connected to the same world we live in, and one that virtually none of the other candidates have experienced recently, and in some cases, have never experienced.

Actually, this is even dumber. Her supporters expect others to swoon over her no matter what insignificant thing it is. (And with minimum wage in Ohio at $8.10 an hour, there's not much reason for someone working at Chipotle to give a shit over Hillary.)
