JIM MESSINA
Jim Messina President and CEO
The mastermind behind President Obamas 2012 re-election campaign, Jim Messina seized the reins on what Bloomberg Businessweek dubbed the highest-wattage crash course in executive management ever undertakenand succeeded, earning the President another term in the White House. With the guidance of technologys foremost leaders, Messina abandoned every step of a traditional presidential campaign and merged technology and politics in a way that was both unpredictable and unprecedented. Messinas strategies established the modern presidential campaignGoogles Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt called it the best-run campaign ever.
The American Association of Political Consultants later crowned him the Campaign Strategist of the Year.
In January 2013, the Obama administration announced the launch of Organizing for Action, a new advocacy organization that will promote President Obamas policies, with Jim Messina as national chair. That same year, Messina became Co-Chair of Priorities USA, the Super Pac backing Hillary Clintons campaign for President.
In 2013, Messina also launched The Messina Group. In this role, Messina provides strategic consulting to political campaigns, advocacy organizations and businesses. In this capacity, Messina served as senior advisor to Prime Minister David Camerons surprising 2015 electoral victory, which handed him an unforeseen majority. The Messina Group has offices in Washington, DC, New York, London and San Francisco and advises numerous entities, including Uber and Airbnb.
Jim Messina served as Deputy Chief of Staff to President Barack H. Obama from 2009 to 2011, where he was integral to the passage of the landmark health care and economic stimulus bills, in addition to serving as the campaign manager for Obamas successful 2012 re-election campaign. He previously served as Director of Personnel for the Obama-Biden Presidential Transition and as national chief of staff for Obama for America in 2008.
Messina joined the Obama campaign from the office of U.S. Senator Max Baucus (D-MT), where he was chief of staff. He previously held the same position for U.S. Senator Byron Dorgan (D-ND) and U.S. Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY).
He is a proud graduate of the University of Montana and sits on the boards of HyperLoop Technologies, LanzaTech, Vectra Networks, Privacy.com, and the United States Soccer Foundation. Hes grabbing clients around the world, some of whom seem at odds with one another. And hes grabbing cash, in the form of speeches at roughly $50,000 a pop to corporate special interests like the American Petroleum Institute and foreign groups like the government of the United Arab Emirate of Sharjah whose positions dont always jibe with liberal or democratic ideals.

Meet Jim Messina, Obama's 'Enforcer' Against Progressives
...As a former chief of staff to Baucus and deputy to Emanuel, Messina has clashed with progressive activists and grassroots Obama supporters both inside and outside Washington over political strategy and on issues like healthcare reform and gay rights, alienating parts of the very constituencies that worked so hard for Obama in 2008 and that the campaign needs to reinspire and activate in 2012. Obamas fixer has arguably created as many problems as hes solved. He is not of the Obama movement, says one top Democratic strategist in Washington. There is not a bone in his body that speaks to or comprehends the idea of a movement and that grassroots energy. To me, thats bothersome.
//
The inside strategy pursued by Messina, relying on industry lobbyists and senior legislators to advance the bill, was directly counter to the promise of the 2008 Obama campaign, which talked endlessly about mobilizing grassroots support to bring fundamental change to Washington. But that wasnt Messinas styleinstead, he spearheaded the administrations deals with doctors, hospitals and drug companies, particularly the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA), one of the most egregious aspects of the bill. They cared more about their relationship with the healthcare industry than anyone else, says one former HCAN staffer. It was shocking to see. To me, that was the scariest part of it, because this White House had ridden in on a white horse and said, Were not going to do this anymore.
//
Messina has a lot of talents, but hes extremely conservative in his views on how to do politics. Hes got a tried-and-true triangulation methodology, and thats never gonna change. The Democratic National Committee declined to make Messina available for an interview.

(2,388 posts)Argentine President Hired Obama's Former Public Image Advisor
Buenos Aires, Apr 6 (Prensa Latina) In response to strong pressures for unpopular policies and hit by the effects of the recent Panama Papers, Argentine President Mauricio Macri has hired expert Jim Messina, President Barack Obama's former public image advisor.
Veinte y Tres magazine reports that Messina is a stranger in Argentina but has a successful career as a consultant, which includes leading Obama's political campaign in 2012 when he won the reelection.
One of the main cornerstones of the campaign was the use of social networks and information posted by users in different platforms to know the preferences of voters, the article reveals.
On Wednesday 30th, a representative of the Messina Group, vice-president Brennan Bilberry met with Chief of Staff Marcos Peña and Public Communication secretary Jorge Grecco, the article goes on.
Messina, who was the architect of Obama's reelection in 2012, is regarded as one of the greatest strategists in public and communications issues worldwide.
Currently, the Messina Group advises clients from several countries and a variety of fields that include energy, security, telecommunications, entertainment, health assistance and sports, and now will advise President Macri.
He comes at the right time, when President Macri is going through a difficult period after the revelations that he led a ghost company based in Bahamas and is the vice-president of another company in Panama.

(2,388 posts)I don't know what the story is, but he seems to be very effective at
getting things 'done'. Does he have an agenda or is he just out for
the money?
