Which is too bad, because if anyone deserves to be president more than Bernie Sanders, it just might be Elizabeth Warren, another senator with the experience, intelligence, and moral fortitude the position of president demands.

(24,010 posts)She already has. Her actions as Secretary of State resulted in the murder of Berta Caceres in Honduras, and the rapes and murders of many other woman leaders of the anti-fascist movement there. Her actions resulted in horrendous misery for tens of thousands of women in Libya and Syria, and Iraq. Women are the first victims of war. Clinton blithely, callously sought destabilization of these countries, now ripped by civil war. And I will never ever forget--cannot erase from my mind, awful as it is--the clip of Hillary Clinton crowing over the horrible torture and murder Gaddaffi ("We came, we saw, he died!" she laughed.) The man was sodomized with a bayonet before he was murdered. THAT is feminism? NO THANK YOU!
I also cringe when the Hillary femme-bots here at DU get off on their absurd word games (like tonight, their objection to the word "whore" in "corporate whore" by an introducer at Bernie's Manhattan rally). I mean, talk about TRIVIAL!
Feminism is not a word game! I'm a 70 year old woman and I know a thing or two about feminist struggles. It isn't words that matter. That is a parlor game for privileged women. What matters are ACTIONS. What matters is having a GOOD HEART and wanting fairness and justice for all. I am NOT a "political correctness" kind of feminist. I judge CHARACTER, not slippages of wording!
And I oppose censorship! That is an article of faith with me. And, believe me, I do understand the patriarchal blindness of otherwise brilliant men, for instance, Jacob Bronowski and his "Ascent of Man." I still resent that title. But to abuse and reject that marvelous book and TV production, over this particular cultural blindness that happens to get under MY skin, is ridiculous. If I wrote a review of Bronowski, that would be a footnote, at most. The other answer is like Starhawk's--write your own book! Tell it like it is, from the point of view of women throughout the ages, and women stripped of a God because God is made in the image of MAN.
Stop carping over words, feminists! Get to the heart of the matter!
And political feminists, such as those exhibited here in the Hillary forum, who object to a Jewish Brooklynite waving his arms or pointing his finger in a debate with Hillary, or object to the phrase "corporate whore," when that is exactly the right phrase to describe many of our Democratic leaders, is the worst form of this myopic feminism which focuses on irrelevancies and completely ignores substance.
I think Clinton is going to lose in November, if she gets that far, because way too many people distrust and dislike her. But if she squeaks through, because of the blunders of the clown party, she is going to be a disaster for the country AND for the feminist cause. She is a feminist for privileged, rich women, not for the rest of us; and our Mother Earth is going to go down for the count under her corrupt mismanagement. We have not a minute to lose in saving our planet. We need to concentrate all of our energies and resources toward that purpose, and we need to end poverty, improve access to education and create millions of new jobs while we do it. That is one helluva tall order, requiring a leader with great VISION, and I couldn't care less whether he is a he and waves his arms in debate with one of the most corrupt Democrats who has ever run for president.

(40,416 posts)And yes, Bronowski's series The Ascent of Man was wonderful (except the title). I have it on DVD and binge watch it on occasion. The best part was Knowledge or Certainty, a stunning essay on quantum physics, measurements, ethics and science that ends at Aushwitz, directed by Mick Jackson. Those unscripted narratives Jacob Bronowski wove were incredible.
Even though some of the science of that series is outdated, the series remains relevant due to Bronowski's passion for the good that science has done, in spite of the bad. As one trained in physics, that is my judgement as well.
BTW, did you know that Bronowski was tiny, under five feet tall. In my estimation, he was a giant. However, making AOM basically killed him. He was not well and shuffling off all over the world took its toll.
Great post, my friend.

(108,980 posts)That's what we really need. Because, as Bernie's campaign manager warned us, when a secretary tries to satisfy her "ambitions to become President of the United States" it could "destroy the Democratic party"!
Seriously, there's nothing worse than a woman who is too ambitious.
And we certainly don't want a woman who runs hard in ALL the primaries, including those worthless ones in the South where real progressives don't even try to compete.

When CNNs Jake Tapper asked him about the increasingly aggressive rhetoric between Sanders and Hillary Clinton, Weaver averred that his campaign was prepared to play hardball. He then sounded a warning to the former secretary of State and her supporters, suggesting that they not get too critical of Sanders or his supporters. Dont destroy the Democratic Party to satisfy the secretarys ambitions to become president of the United States, Weaver said.
It was a small comment, in every sense. A throwaway bit of nastiness coming from a campaign manager in the late stages of a long and hotly contested primary battle. But the line, which overtly cast Clintons political ambition as a destructive force and framed her famous drive and tenacity as unappealing, malevolent traits, played on long-standing assumptions about how ambition a quality that is required for powerful men and admired in them looks far less attractive on their female counterparts, and especially on their female competitors.

(17,796 posts)for no reason other then personal ambition?
Seems to me that's the person you don't want in office.

(108,980 posts)especially a woman -- because of all the extra hurdles she will have to leap -- is deeply sexist.
And it is also deeply sexist to insinuate that the only thing that drives a former Secretary of State and New York Senator (whose first job out of law school was working for the Children's Defense Fund) is personal ambition.
Hillary cares about making a contribution to the United States and the world as much as Bernie or any other candidate.

(17,796 posts)first-you're right, it not only personal ambition that motives Hillary. How could I forget about the money? And I have no doubt the it's sexist of me to think so, since I view Bill in the same light. How misogynistic of me to want Hillary to be equally open to donors and voters.

(975 posts)Well that's true it is "her time" isn't it? I mean she is to be revered because of her ever shifting and changing positions..... LOL.... Give me a break..
I wish Warren had run but she would make a fine VP for President Bernie Sanders if he should so choose.
As to what Rebecca Traister has to say. Well she is entitled to her opinion. as am I. We just see it differently is all.

I don't find that framing to be true I like Warren's strength and stance on issues but then of course she is on the right side of the issues I care about and OMG she's a woman.

(108,980 posts)the New York Daily News, compared to Bernie's the week before, demonstrated once again how much of a firmer grasp she has on issues and solutions.
She's not offering unicorns and puppy dogs, so people who want them will be disappointed.

(108,980 posts)We women who support Hillary sure appreciate your giving us the "one piece of writing every Hillary supporter should read."
Just think: all that we need to know about Hillary can be distilled into one simple, easy-to-read piece -- that just happens to be written by you.
Who knew?!
Thanks again!
