Santorum jumps to the lead in GOP demagoguery parade equating Obama to Hitler
In a speech delivered in Georgia on Feb 19, Rick Santorum established a new reprehensible low - even for a Republican - in equating Obama to Hitler:

Why? Because were a hopeful people. We think, You know it will get better. Yeah, I mean, hes a nice guy. It wont be near as bad as what we think. You know, this will be OK. You know, maybe hes not the best guy. After a while, you found out some things about this guy over in Europe and maybe hes not so good of a guy after all. But you know what? Why do we need to be involved? Well just take care of our own problems, just get our families off to work and our kids off to school and well be OK.
The candidate added: Sometimes, sometimes its not OK.
With this monstrous bit of demogoguery Santorum, the 'Christian values' candidate, has hit a new low in the rhetoric of campaigning by personal assault and 'boogie man' fear mongering.
My question is this: Are the Republicans able to disagree with anyone without demonizing him? Can the party who pontificates on 'values', ever make a point without delivering ominous warnings to their audience that their opponent is out to 'end civilization as we know it'? The GOP: I think if you took away the invective they would be speechless.
This sort of despicable rhetoric is necessary because the GOP is devoid of ideas. They are not a political party so much as an aggregate of sick individuals wailing about the end of the Earth - which they of course, are needed to prevent. They do hold to some nonsensical fantasies such as the notion that you can maintain society without any rules of conduct (deregulation) and that concentrating the wealth in the hands of fewer and fewer people will produce prosperity and economic growth. They hold to these two fantasies despite the fact that these very policies, so completely realized by the previous, Republican, administration produced the greatest economic calamaty this nation has seen since the (first) Great Depression.
The Republicans are too embarassed to face the overwhelming evidence, provided by the Bush administration, that their much loved policies of deregulation and concentration of wealth in the hands of the few, produced an economic disaster which we are still trying to dig out of (of course their filibustering and demanding downsizing of any and all economic stimulus efforts hasn't helped). So, they MUST see the steps taken by Obama (and in the case of TARP, initiated by Bush) not as necessary steps to avert a total 'bread lines' depression (recognized as such by virtually all economists of whatever political leanings) and to rebuild our broken economy - but as some spookie 'agenda' Obama is craftily perpetrating on American.

... I like that!
Having been a insied witness, in the past, (for too long) to what seems to have become more of a cult than a political party (ideas and thinking have been driven out by demogoguery), I can say you have diagnosed the sickness of Conservativism very well. (The late Trickle Down Deregulation disaster finally forced me to wake up to realize what a sucker I had been. It was a bitter pill to swallow but I think admitting you have been a sucker, and knowing what's really going on is far better than to continue 'being had'.)
They have no plan or ideas for building any real, credible system that they know - and can demonstrate - will work. They are just out to destroy the system which their controllers think limits their freedom to pursue endless profits at any cost (to society). Which, in the end, isn't very practical. The resultant costs of laissez-faire policies (which are never recognized by conservatives - even when they have been overwhelmingly demonstrated, e.g the Trickle Down Deregulation disaster) - the egregious imbalances and inevitable economic calamities are born by society as a whole. (they never seem to be able to figure out that they can't continue to grow profits unless the people they want to sell products to have enough money to to buy the products the businesses want to sell them!)
You are right on target with the point that demonizing the people who disagree with you "... is necessary because the GOP is devoid of ideas".
recommended.
