(Sorry, I couldn't resist . . . )

But seriously, education is antithetical to faith where you believe without analysis rather than discover, test, and know a fact. And the more you know, the more you doubt and the more you know. Having independent autonomous thinkers is the last thing fundamentalists and neocon republicans want.

Liberal education would have "given us our cake and let us eat it too." Instead, we get "practical education" and we're paid nothing for it. We need a liberal education to fight off the foolishness of "free-for the rich" markets and the phony promises of libertarianism.

Joe McCarthy is the classic American example of this. The McCarthy era was when the anti-intellectual slur "egghead" became very popular.

This is one of those things that sounds odd and crazy to outsiders, but won't really get them up in arms. However, for those "in the know" inside the RW bubble, for whom "college" is defined by protesting hippies and tales of leftist indoctination, he's telling them loud and clear that he's their guy.

some years ago reportedly told an admiring audience as he inveighed against the evils of the local university, "do you know that in that place they let boys and girls matriculate together!!!??? And not only that - they are forced to share the same curriculum!!!". Works every time.
