The Financial Times and Venezuela: From War in the Suites to Terror in the Streets
In covering the crisis in Venezuela, the FT has systematically ignored the ongoing campaign of assaults and assassinations against elected officials, security officers, military and police who have been murdered by the FTs favored opposition.
The FT did not cover the horrific murders of an elected Chavista congresswoman and her two young children, who were executed (shot in the head) in broad daylight by opposition-paid hitmen.
These ongoing opposition terror campaigns against the elected government and the general public are systematically ignored in the FTs reports and on its editorial pages, which focus more on the shortages of consumer items.
The FT cover-up of right-wing terror extended to inventing a possible army or National Guard plan to open fire on opposition demonstrators. In this case, the FT anticipated right-wing violence by laying the blame on the government in advance.
The FT covers-up the opposition business elites campaign of hoarding essential goods to create artificial shortages and panic buying. They deny the ongoing price gouging and pin the blame for shortages and long consumer lines exclusively on regime mismanagement.
The FT conveniently omits to mention that the decline in world oil prices has affected not only the economy of Venezuela but all countries dependent on commodity exports, including the Financial Times favorite neo-liberal regimes in Brazil and Argentina.
The Financial Times cites bogus opinion polls, which wildly exaggerate the governments declining popularity: In the recent elections Maduros supporters secured 40% of the popular vote while the FT claims his support to be 7%!

(16,423 posts)Caracas, the capital of Venezuela, has the highest homicide-rate in the world.
http://www.cracked.com/personal-experiences-1674-5-ways-life-different-in-worlds-deadliest-city.html
Crime is almost a perfectly normal profession in Venezuela. Kidnappings and street-robberies are a fact of life.

The poverty and scarcity in Venezuela has become a political tool for Maduro to wield influence.
How do you know that it was hitmen who killed her? How do you know they were paid? How do you know they were paid by the opposition?
How do you know that it wasn't simply criminals?

(16,423 posts)Well, if the author KNEW anything about the chinese economy, he would know that this massive growth is unsustainable, counter-financed by chinese taxpayer-money and will likely come crushing down, leading to a global economic catastrophy unless China gets its shit together and stops artificially proping up the chinese economy.
For over a decade and a half, the FT editors claimed Russia under President Vladimir Putin presented an international existential threat to the West. In fact, it was the Western armies of NATO, which expanded military operations to the borders of Russia, the US, which financed a neo-fascist coup in Kiev and the US-EU which promoted an Islamist uprising in Syria designed to totally undermine Russias influence and relations in the Middle East.
1. Putin was no threat to the West. In fact, Obama tried to play nice with Russia and allowed an Uranium-mining deal to go through that was beneficial for Russia. (Russia isn't exactly sticking to the deal, but no harm is being done either.)
2. Military operations on the border of Russia? Like what? Like the baltic states being NATO-members? Like Ukraine maybe joining NATO?
And maybe the author hasn't heard that Russia invaded Georgia and russian warships in the Baltic Sea are harassing civilian baltic ships with pointless provocations.
3. Let's be clear about one thing: Half of Ukraine HATES Russia and has always HATED Russia. (Why? "Holodomor" They hate Russia so much that their national hero is a guy who teamed up with the Nazis to fight the Russians. So, is it any surprise that a new government who wants to move away from Russia gets support from ukrainian Neonazis?
4. There is zero evidence that the revolution was financed by foreign sources.
5. The uprising in Syria had SHIT to do with Islam and it had SHIT to do with Russia. It was originally a secular political conflict between the Assad-regime and syrian people demanding more political rights. The islamist component came later with the ensuing power-vacuum and from neighbouring Iraq.
6. There is zero evidence that the US intentionally supported islamist rebels in Syria. Even Trump-buddy and Russia Today-regular Gen. Flynn said in an interview that Obama "willfully took the risk" that the weapons might end up in the wrong hands. Even Flynn didn't say that Obama intentionally supported the islamists.
7. Why would the US have an interest in toppling Assad? Google "Assad torture dungeon" and read Amnesty International's report on Syria.

Now go back to sleep, there's a good chap.
