U.S. intelligence suggests Russia helped Trump win the presidency and that the Kremlins hacking efforts were disproportionately aimed at the Democratic Party.
Previously, the U.S. intelligence community had said that Moscows goals were limited to disrupting the election.
U.S. officials believe a Russian military spy agency hacked the Democratic National Committee and provided WikiLeaks with thousands of emails.
Officials say the Russian government also breached the Republican National Committees computer systems, but are less certain whether the hackers were able to extract information. The RNC denies it was hacked.

(35,317 posts)That shows misunderstanding of the actors involved. Some are state. Many aren't. Some are grey, "patriotic" (in the same way that the KKK was patriotic), and governmental when it suits them and the government and not when it's not.
I get spearfished by Russian-based actors of some kind on a regular basis.
At my personal email.
Less often I get phished at work, but then again my employer is paranoid about such things and actively screens email. It's almost Monty-Pythonesque to the extent I've had messages even from my supervisor and *his* supervisor put into quarantine. I've seen myself email that was marked "suspicious." Gee.
Now, granted I have a very sensitive job. I teach public high-school science.
In this case, it's not the information that's presented that's important; it's the evidence that's not presented that somehow makes the targets seem utterly not unique.
