Reaching Out to the Voters the Left Left Behind

'The devastating recession that began at the end of 2007 and officially ended in June 2009 was the most severe downturn since World War II.

The political, social and even medical consequences of this recession have been duly noted, but even so the depths of its effects are only now becoming clear. One we’re still learning more about is how the rural, less populated regions of the country (known among demographers as nonmetropolitan counties), which already suffered from higher than average poverty rates, recovered from the recession at a far slower pace than more populous metropolitan counties.

The fact that people living outside big cities were battered so acutely by the recession goes a long way toward explaining President Trump’s victory in the last election.

In Luzerne County, in northeast Pennsylvania, population 316,383 and falling, the unemployment rate in February 2017 was 6.7 percent, substantially higher than it had been at the start of the recession (it was at 4.6 percent in October 2007). The total number of people in the county labor force declined by 2,544.'>>>

Then I'll complain that there's no services/businesses/employment opportunities around. Geez.

But what if we are reaching out to those with whom we are not in 100% agreement?

A rhetorical question. If we do not reach out to voters who are not consistent Democrats, we cannot grow the Party. Saying that they are unreachable is writing them off.

Yes, we can talk of motivating the unmotivated, and I have, but unless we can somehow motivate a lot of the unmotivated, our choice is to continue to lose elections at the State and local level or reach out to those who are actually voting.

Sorry, not sure how many times I have to repeat myself, but I'm not playing kiss-ass to a bunch of racists and anti-intellectual Luddites... I have NO obligation whatsoever to "reach out" to those who don't even see me as an American with the same rights as they have... I'm not going to magically forget all the things I overheard them call Obama for eight years... I'm not going to pat them on the head and tell them it's all right to want the Mexicans and Muslims deported, just because some jobs got outsourced...

These morons who keep parroting the Dems don't care and left them behind have been voting in GOP governors and state houses for the better part of two decades and shit in the ol' hometown is worse than ever... We're getting blamed for this why? For daring to nominate a woman? For having the gall to call out racial scapegoating??
