Charles Blow: Trump is an abomination and a cancer on our country.

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/07/03/opinion/trump-hijacked-american-presidency.html?smprod=nytcore-iphone&smid=nytcore-iphone-share

Every now and then we are going to have to do this: Step back from the daily onslaughts of insanity emanating from Donald Trump’s parasitic presidency and remind ourselves of the obscenity of it all, registering its magnitude in its full, devastating truth.

SNIP

Donald Trump is depending on people’s fatigue. He is banking on your becoming overwhelmed by his never-ending antics. He is counting on his capacity to wear down the resistance by sheer force.

We must be adamant that that will never come to pass. Trump is an abomination, and a cancer on the country, and none of us can rest until he is no longer holding the reins of power.

We are being conditioned to accept the unacceptable. Pure evil does not have to murder anyone it only has to get you to accept what they want without conscience or empathy. Trump wants your money.

If only that were true.

I fear the opposite.

If Trump is impeached and removed from office, Mike Pence will become president.

In the wake of the vulgar orange sociopath the media will hail Pence as a return to normalcy -- with the goalposts moved, once again, further to the right.

Hell, most eligible voters probably don't associate Pence with the Russian scandal and a big chunk on the right denies any wrongdoing whatsover.

Perception is what matters, and the last election demonstrated quite clearly that enough people can be fooled most of the time.

Meanwhile, voter suppression rolls on and nothing is being done to secure our electoral process from Russian interference.

I've been an optimist most of my life, but no longer.
