Trumps pathetic "opioid briefing" fails miserably,

It also struck me when I saw Melania sitting next to Trump during this briefing on this opioid crisis. I did not see Jared in the photo but this article says he was there.

Tump appeared at his golf resort to discuss America's deadly drug overdose epidemic. It did not go well.

Touted as a major policy briefing from Donald Trump and his team of senior health care advisers, Tuesday’s “working vacation” event on America’s raging opioid epidemic turned out to be a pointless photo op, where a disconnected Trump read incoherent talking points while his wife and son-in-law looked on.

..............................

He later added, “We will win. We have no alternative. We have to win for our youth. We have to win for our young people.

Not only does the “Just Say No” approach not work, it ignores the fact that that opioid epidemic is driven, in part, by prescriptions written up by doctors to patients who then become addicted to the painkillers. Are “young people” supposed to say no to doctors?
..................................................

Meanwhile, who holds a drug epidemic briefing at a golf resort? Trump does, as part of his so-called working vacation. But Trump just mailed the whole thing in anyway.

From the White House press pool report: “Trump first delivered a statement about the opioid crisis, mostly reading from a piece of paper and sitting with both elbows on the table. Trump mostly looked down as he spoke.”
.............................................................

But Trump’s ignoring the entire report — there will be no state of emergency declared — which explained why Christie flew off for an Italy vacation rather than appear with Trump.

Also absent from the briefing was anyone from the Drug Enforcement Agency, which has taken a lead role in fighting the crisis.

Who did attend the photo op? Jared Kushner and Melania Trump. Question: What opioid, addiction, or public health policy expertise does Kushner have? What expertise does Melania have? She almost never accompanies Trump domestically for policy events. So why did she suddenly appear at a golf resort briefing about America’s deadly opioid crisis?....

Just tell the kids: Drugs Bad! (Well then, crisis handled.) Now watch me cut funding for treatment.

said the boy genius.

It's true, of course, but is this what passes for policy today? Just say no? Again?

3. I predict this: He is going to have those addicted put into prison and create jobs

for them so he can get free labor and minimal boarding costs because the food will be inadequate, health care will be close to nil, heating will be almost nil also, building structure will not be maintained correctly. This goes for any other criminal or people who have broken the law because I also predict they will pick and chose who they think should suffer what punishment for any crime no matter how small or big.

Maybe I am paranoid but it is just what I see that could possibly happen.

They do that in NK already.

It does not surprise me but I think they will greatly increase it and not be afraid if the public knows. What do you think they plan for the opioid addicts?

BTW, the New York Times reported that Trump was looking down a talking points about the opioid crisis. I'm not buying it unless the NY Times actually saw the paper. Trump's eyes were riveted several times to that paper and you could see his eyes move across it. He was reading whatever was printed.

for any opiate article and you'll see the right's new alternative to "just say no". Their new plan is to cut off naxolene or prevent emergency personnel or other first responders from treating overdose victims. Their answer is basically "let them die". It disgusts me that people could be that vicious (and it's not race based either since most articles I've read are reporting on white people struggling with addiction).
