BTRTN SaturData Review: Trump Approval Immutable Despite Wild Week

Donald Trump's approval rating dropped quickly from his immediate post-Inaugural levels, but has been stuck since:

"...One struggles to think of a moment when a standing Administration, the U.S. Congress and peace prospects around the globe were simultaneously more fraught with peril. Think of Watergate, Vietnam (the analogy here being North Korea) and, say, the Profumo affair all occurring simultaneously – is it too much to imagine that we are on the precipice of such a scenario?

And yet, the numbers are what they are, with Trump supporters and detractors dug in, staring across a Grand Canyon-esque divide, incapable of defection, immune to new information. We had yet another week where an incredible amount happened and nothing changed at all..."

“…with Trump supporters and detractors dug in, staring across a Grand Canyon-esque divide, incapable of defection, immune to new information.”

As Trump continues to pursue his failed, wrongheaded agenda of bigotry and hate, it is perfectly appropriate and warranted for those who oppose Trump to continue to do so.

...the sentence merely states that neither side seems likely to change its view of Trump. The approval number has been roughly the same for six months. Presuming you oppose Trump (as do I), are you likely to change your mind?

I remember the same numbers during the Dubya years. There is a hardcore Republican constituency that is somewhere in the low 30s.

I remember one of my coworkers, a very nice man indeed, bemoaning what had happened to his industry due to laissez faire capitalism. When I pointed out that we had come to where to the place where his industry was destroyed by rapacious private equity groups incentivized by perverse tax breaks and that he should consider voting Democratic a look of horror crosssd his face. He told me that he couldn’t imagine ever voting Democratic.

We’re seeing this play out in Alabama now. The voters of Alabama may not vote for Roy Moore but they’re not going to vote for Doug Jones. They may ride in Nick Sabin or some other name but they sure as hell won’t vote for a Democrat.

It used to be that the hardcore anything was 25% or so. Nixon, Bush 43 and Carter all sank into the mid-20's. Not sure if Trump will ever get there because this is a cult of personality.
