from Adam Schiff How Democrats can sweep the midterm elections

The only effective way to put a check on the regressive and anti-democratic actions of this President is to take back Congress.

Democrats can do so by championing an economy that works for everyone, support for family and a return to decency.

'Every four years voters hear that these midterm elections will be the most consequential in a generation. They usually greet the claim with healthy skepticism. But this time around it's perfectly true.

For there to be an effective check on the regressive and anti-democratic impulses of the Trump administration, Democrats will need to take back at least one chamber of Congress, and ideally both.

Thanks to the dismal job President Trump and Republicans are doing, Democrats have reason to feel optimistic about our prospects this November. But we will need to offer American voters more than just anti-Trump anger. Democrats must present solutions to the millions of working families who feel left behind, and appeal to core values that are not reflected in the crude and bitter divisiveness displayed by Trump.

The Democratic case to voters should focus on three essential priorities: an economy that works for everyone, an emphasis on family, and a return to fundamental decency.'>>>

Still, the phrase "emphasis on family," without more, sounds like "family values" to me, too. More_Cowbell Mar 2018 #9

Their approach is exclusionary. Ours is inclusive. Supporting families means supporting ordinary people who need help, no matter what their gender, sexual orientation, race, or religious beliefs. Its means getting support down to the people who need it, not to the wealthy so that it can supposedly eventually "trickle down."

If only for the sound bites, I wish Schiff would say something like "emphasis on helping families," though even that sounds a little exclusionary (what about single people?)

"an economy that works for everyone, support for family and a return to decency"

Of course, what we liberals mean by these words is exactly the opposite of what conservatives mean by the same words. We have to get across the ways this platform is completely different from theirs.

The man makes sense. That's a refreshing change from the inanities and indecencies of TrumPutin and his fellow traitors.

This theme needs to be preached by every Democrat, day after day. Those not presenting this positive theme should be pointing out how the GOPers are attacking everyone except their 1% owners, every day.
