U.S. employers are willingly giving American jobs to immigrants and our government is doing nothing about it.

Aside from the advantage of lower wages to employers, perhaps Congress is unwilling to act because all the money undocumented workers contribute to Social Security and Medicare is all that is keeping those programs fiscally viable.

Every year millions of Social Security mismatch letters are sent to U.S. employers, indicating the likelihood a worker is undocumented. Those letters could and should be used to round up the workers impersonating work-eligible citizens and permanent residents.

But more importantly, they should be used to identify U.S. employers who hire illegals and those companies should be fined and owners jailed.

That would end the jobs magnet that lures millions across our borders each year. We know exactly where all those violating the law work and who is benefiting from that work. There is no excuse for allowing this practice to continue, if we truly care about immigration.

If business owners (largely Republicans) didn't HIRE them - because they work for low wages - we wouldn't have this problem.
