As Trump's China Tariffs Kick In, US Farmers Watch Prices Slide

Growers in corn and soybean country face billions of dollars in losses.

President Donald Trump’s long-simmering, multi-front trade war is about to escalate: On Friday, the United States plans to begin slapping a 25 percent tariff on $34 billion worth of goods from China, which has vowed to retaliate immediately with its own duties on US goods.

For farmers who produce the United States’ two biggest crops, corn and soybeans, the actual imposition of these long-threatened tariffs is a formality. Look at what’s been happening to prices recently. Here’s soybeans:

European set foot on this continent. I think they have the long game down way better then Twitler ever will. That being said, maybe we should stop growing stuff that no one wants. It is a poor use of water and the farm run off has led to the biggest dead zone in the Gulf of Mexico on record. There are also concerns about loss of top soil which would be catastrophic.

Things like model trains and RC cars. Will those go up in price?

Most new stuff like that you have to preorder because the manufacturer only wants to invest in what he can sell.

So maybe you have to preorder not knowing what the price will be. Or not knowing the costs no manufacturer will want to invest in new items.

Either would piss off hobbyists.
