Mueller fights Manafort's bid for release from Virginia jail

(snip)

In a filing Thursday, Mueller's team urged the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit not to disturb a lower court's order last month jailing Manafort over charges that he tampered with witnesses related to the cases against him.

(snip)

"That argument vastly understates the seriousness of the conduct that prompted Manafort’s detention," Mueller's lawyers wrote. "That conduct is no less damaging to the justice system when committed through covert corrupt persuasion than through overt violence."

An updated indictment filed against Manafort last month accused him of reaching out to two former colleagues, Alan Friedman and Eckart Sager, in an attempt to have them say that a Ukraine-related lobbying campaign they worked on was focused on Europe, not the U.S. Manafort has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Prosecutors insist the campaign to advance the interests of Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych and his political party did target U.S. officials and thus should have been registered with the Justice Department.

Legal expenditures must be in the surprising millions. All motions, etc. have been turned down. Possible he has 'financial support' from some undisclosed resources, for a number of different reasons [delay, trump has no legal barrier qualms about generating support. . ., . . . [Nixon had many 'apple bites' in Haldeman's safe, with many more 'bushels' of apples available].

The new expenditures push the cost of the independent counsel's 4 1/2-year inquiry of the president and first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton to $39.2 million. Starr was appointed to continue the investigation of the Clinton's Whitewater land deal. The probe was expanded in January 1998 to include the Lewinsky matter.

*snip*

Besides Starr, five other independent counsels are currently conducting investigations. Four of those focus on the Clinton Administration. The combined costs of those four inquiries and the Starr probe now comes to $79.3 million.

willing to fight from the voting booth, or, in my case Vote By Mail.

Manafort is just a symptom of a deep seated emotional disorder plaguing the Republican Party to its destruction. imo
