As Supreme Court battle roils DC, suburban voters shrug

Source: AP

OMAHA, Nebraska (AP) — It stands to shift the direction of the nation’s highest court for decades, but President Donald Trump’s move to fill a Supreme Court vacancy has barely cracked the consciousness of some voters in the nation’s top political battlegrounds.

Even among this year’s most prized voting bloc — educated suburban women — there’s no evidence that a groundswell of opposition to a conservative transformation of the judicial branch, which could lead to the erosion or reversal of Roe v. Wade, will significantly alter the trajectory of the midterms, particularly in the House.

Many of those on the left who were already energized to punish Trump’s party this fall remain enthusiastic. On the right, voters loyal to Trump often needed no encouragement either, though some Republicans who have soured on the president were heartened by Kavanaugh’s nomination.

And those in the middle? Many said they weren’t following the issue closely enough to have a strong opinion despite the prospect of dramatic changes to America’s customs and culture. “I’m not going to know much about this, I’m afraid,” said 31-year-old Christian school principal Sara Breetzke, a self-described moderate Republican who lives in Omaha. “I really should know more, but I don’t have anything unique to say.”

I had friends who carelessly thought in the 1964 Presidential campaign that, 'AuH2O' was sort of interesting - they did not really 'get it.' {Goldwater's deeper implications}.

[At that time, I was shallowly against Goldwater but I didn't really 'get it' either. The message we got was more like the Republican official image of Goldwater as an independent, sharp cowboy. It was a few years later that I learned that Goldwater in his campaign speeches went around to his rallies awfully saying we 'had to stop the NAACP from running the country', etc., etc.]

My sense is that today, among many 'low information voters' [those that trump understands and appreciates so much], who are just very, very casually aware of what is going on, don't really 'get it'. While they understand Trump is sort of wild, have even heard of some of that something about a Russia thing, - hard as it is for we DU types to understand, they still don't 'get it.'

Hopefully, they might start to 'get it', with graphic, clear evidence of election manipulation. etc. [clear imagery on the order of LBJ's famous nuclear explosion TV ad?], - and that Trump's 'wealth' and 'wild' behavior is mostly a direct product of Putin bribes. Hope so.

Or that new washer/dryer at Sears they had their heart on now costs more than their car. And there is no Sears anymore.

You can ignore politics but politics won't ignore you.
