5 SU law professors, more sign letter opposing Kavanaugh for Supreme Court
More than 1,200 law professors have signed onto a letter saying that Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh displayed a lack of judicial restraint at a Senate hearing last week - behavior that would be disqualifying for any court nominee.
Kavanaugh was responding to accusations from a California professor, Christine Blasey Ford, that he sexually assaulted her at a house party when they were teenagers in the 1980s. At the hearing, he vehemently defended his innocence and derided what he called "a calculated and orchestrated political hit."
Afterward, law professors across the country began discussing "with great distress, the unprecedented and unfathomable demeanor of Judge Kavanaugh," said Bernard Harcourt, a professor at Columbia Law School.

The groundswell was overwhelming, he said, with hundreds of lawyers from more than 150 law schools signing on within hours.

(6,043 posts)1. More People Signing Up to Defend the Constitution as the War Takes Shape.
Prisoners have already been taken in this war and some have committed suicide in captivity or may even have been killed; families torn asunder at the border now include children citizens being ripped from non-citizen parents, foreign adoptees without perfect "papers" are now being ordered deported.; citizens have already been killed and not just in Charlottesburg.
The propaganda war has been being waged against us for some time now and done with the help of a foreign nation allied with the home grown forces that have seized power over us illegitimately.
Our government has been infiltrated by by people opposed to democracy -Federalist Society for one- is hostile to democracy. Most of us have no idea how many of them are in key roles in government. To them we are rabble who should not have the right to vote.
Our allies are being pushed away, treaties broken and weakened. We who value freedom and equality are being isolated
Our supply line has been squeezed through planned income inequality, and is being squeezed further by trade deals that will hurt us-especially those of us who cannot afford luxury items-the Apple watches.
At point there will be sharp increases in travel restrictions-not just for people wanting to come in-but also for people wanting to get out.
The entire Republican Party is complicit. If any Republican legislator were not, they would have left that party by now.
I believe that we will successfully defend ourselves and our Constitution but it will be a struggle because we were not sufficiently vigilant. I see victory by 2028 but it is going to be tough.
Before we win all of us will lose something and some of us will lose everything.
What we have is each other and real values.
