Exasperated Ecuador ends asylum for world's worst houseguest

Did Western media and government hypocrisy bring about Julian Assange's arrest, or was it his bad manners?

The dramatic end to Julian Assange's asylum has sparked curiosity about his 7-year stay inside Ecuador's embassy in London that was marked by his late-night skateboarding, the physical harassment of his caretakers and even the smearing of his own fecal matter on the walls of the diplomatic mission.

It would've tested the patience of any host. But for tiny Ecuador, which prides itself on its hospitality and spent almost $1 million a year protecting Assange, it was also seen as a national insult.

"We've ended the asylum of this spoiled brat," a visibly flustered President Lenin Moreno said Thursday in a fiery speech explaining his decision to withdraw protection of Assange and hand him over to British police. "From now on we'll be more careful in giving asylum to people who are really worth it, and not miserable hackers whose only goal is to destabilize governments."

Lesson for Julian: Don't bite the hand that grants you asylum. Also don't smear shit on embassy walls.

... Make your visit short and sweet. Generally keep your visit to no more than three nights. Seven years is right out ...

Show your hosts that you’re enjoying yourself. One good way to show this is to not sue them for “violating <your> fundamental rights” because they took away your Wi-Fi privileges ...

Double-check to make sure you have all your belongings before you leave. Did you leave a book in the bedside table, socks on the floor, feces on the walls? ...

Bring or send a gift, or treat your host to a night out. If you have decided that it is not in your best interests to leave, consider giving them the gift of you cleaning up after your own cat and not riding your scooter in the hallway ...

litter box. If the embassy turns 🐱 over to a British shelter, they'll find a good home. I can quit worrying!

3. Julian Assange, the hacker hacked

On Thursday in London, it was almost as though the metropolitan police, working with the Ecuadorian government, had hacked into Julian Assange’s private space and exposed him and his secrets to disinfecting sunlight. (Literally disinfecting: Assange’s lax personal hygiene has troubled the embassy staff for years.)

Assange was freed by force from the embassy redoubt he despised and defiled for seven years. The breakup should have been mutual, but no. An oatmeal-colored Assange — he seems to have made little use of the sunlamp and treadmill the embassy generously furnished for him — left his digs at 3 Hans Crescent kicking and screaming. And manacled.

The video of his arrest ricocheted around the internet. Somehow WikiLeaks itself, which usually loves the spectacle of hubris brought low, failed to publish it.

Assange now faces skipped-bail charges in the UK, as well as the possibility of extradition to the United States, where he has been indicted for alleged computer crimes — specifically, having helped U.S. Army intelligence analyst Chelsea Manning break into government computers in 2010.

Ecuador applied for a $4.2 billion loan from the International Monetary Fund, which is controlled by the United States. The loan was granted the day after Assange was kicked out of the Ecuadorian embassy.

Those are actual facts. If you want to believe that are merely coincidental feel free to do so. You can also buy a very nice bridge in Brooklyn.
