Not content with dictating U.S. policy toward Cuba, they very much presume to vet U.S. policy toward all of Latin America as well.

Their model of "good neighbors," sadly, are kingpin-controlled thugs like Colombia's Duque, neo-fascists like Brazil's Bolsonaro, and nation-bankrupting kleptocrats like Argentina's Macri - all whom rose to power in no small part thanks to U.S. intelligence support.

The nature of this support, in fact, is starting to emerge in Argentina, where Macri's use of the judiciary as both a cudgel against opponents and a cash cow (with possible U.S. involvement) is now coming to light.

The inevitable result, of course, is that anti-U.S. sentiment in the region - which had eased considerably during the Obama years - is on the rise again.

It's the only thing they'll ever get from these right-wing despots, however much they wave the American flag.

As they say: with friends like these...
