I tried everything but the coat hanger and nothing worked. I was so lucky that a friend knew about Planned Parenthood in NYC that would do abortions on women 16 and older without their parents consent. We started an underground railroad in 1969 (I was #1) and helped several of our friends and family get to NYC to get legal abortions there. I am prepared to get onboard with this again if the laws are changed.

strategy to find a safe abortion, including if possible finding the money to go out of the country. But the horror was always there. Because it was illegal and deeply stigmatized, you couldn’t know if you would find yourself in an unsafe or even fatal situation. And many women did.

My blood runs cold just remembering this. It’s nightmarish to think we could actually be returning to this reality.

and my mom got one on late 1950's, which I did not find out about for years afterwards.

I was working for Washington State's pro-abortion law, and I think that is why they, at different times, chose to share with me.
Gramma said lots of women were seeking abortions during the depression..married women...for obvious reasons. as it was, she had 8 kids.

series about abortion. It was in the sixties, when I was in high school. I knew little about it before then.
