Hoboken is Burning: Yuppies, Arson, and Displacement

As @dygottlieb notes, Wall Street recruiters prioritized hiring Ivy League grads in the Humanities because what they sought more than anything were pedigreed storytellers who could persuade investors.



And @dygottlieb closes with a brief look at his JAH article, noting how the surge in Wall Street sparked a wave of arsons in Hoboken as landlords burned out Puerto Rican residents to make room for yuppies.

but don't remember fires. I do remember the very poor family who lived in the apt across from us in our renovated brownstone. They were getting forced out so the owners could renovate their place and increase the rent. They had no place to go. It was very sad.
