Voting by mail protects public health

APR 25, 2020 11:00 PM

Due to public health concerns amid coronavirus, more and more states — red and blue alike — are pushing the safety, security and ease of voting from home by using a mail-in ballot. It makes more sense now than ever.

More than two dozen states and the District of Columbia already allow some form of no-excuse mail-in ballot voting. The process has proved to be both effective and secure.

Pennsylvania became the latest addition to that list last year, when Democratic Gov. Tom Wolf and the Republican-controlled Legislature advanced a bipartisan package of sweeping election reforms. They should be commended for their work.

Today, the risk and reality of the virus has made Pennsylvania’s new vote-by-mail option that much more vital to ensure a safe voting option for all. Mail-in ballots give eligible voters a secure way to vote from the comfort and safety of their homes.

And I got an acknowledgement that the State will be sending me a ballot 30-45 days before an election.
