Defenders of the rule of law sound a dire warning about Attorney General Barr

The case against Attorney General William Barr’s corruption of the law was deep enough even before his Justice Department moved to abruptly drop charges against Michael Flynn, the former national security adviser who had pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about his interactions with Russia’s ambassador to the U.S. during the presidential transition.

A nonpartisan group of lawyers, legal scholars and retired judges could wait no longer. It fired off a letter to the House Judiciary Committee requesting a hearing on how the Trump administration has “undermined our country’s core constitutional commitment to the impartial administration of justice.”

Joseph Grodin, a former state Supreme Court justice, said his group, known as Lawyers Allied to Uphold the Rule of Law, was worried that Barr’s intervention in the Flynn case was “the portent of perhaps even greater or more serious” political meddling.

“The Flynn matter just brought to a head the public perception that whether a person is prosecuted or let off depends not necessarily upon the facts or the law, but upon his relationship with the president of the United States,” Grodin said in a phone interview. “And that’s a very scary proposition.”

Because the Retrumplican Cabal openly flouting the law, and even openly breaking the law, all with apparent impunity, just sums up this entire "presidency" / dumpster fire.

concerned they should do something besides firing off letters. That an oaf like Barr is able to best them doesn’t say much for their skills or their collective knowledge.

*The interference in the Stone sentencing.
*The dropping of the 17 federal cases into the Trump Org, Trump election committee, and the Trump inaugural committee when Barr is confirmed AG.
*The abrupt end to the mueller investigation and not releasing the Full Mueller report nor turning over any of it’s evidence that was subpoenaed by congress.
*Interfering in the Manifort sentencing, then his release to home confinement.
*the reversal of Michels Cohen’s grant to spend the rest of his sentence at home due to Covid 19 infections.

Just things from the headlines, but certain that the undocumented list of Barr’s illegal influence is much longer.
