The destructive and indefensible purpose driving these policies is by now all too familiar, as is the resulting damage to the nation’s academic institutions.
We must and will continue to oppose #immigration policies that damage higher education, the national interest, and the international students, researchers, and faculty who enrich our institution and our very lives.

Art Appreciation, Disney Film Analysis, Cartooning 101, The History of Comic Books, Dessert Cooking. Once a week, one-credit pass-fail courses that require little work and might be fun, but the students have to be there physically and have to complete them to graduate.

Especially after teaching three online courses this past semester and summer, with quite a few foreign students involved. They are back in their home countries at the moment, from Britain and Spain to Beijing and South Korea, and it worked for them. The courses were successful, and all students attended and completed all work, no matter where they were. Many, but not all, wish to return to the US if possible.

Though it takes more effort, he would like to continue to teach remotely in the fall, for safety reasons. But he’d like his students to be here. Some of his foreign students had unreliable Internet service, in addition to time differences of up to 13 hours. Therefore courses had to be arranged both synchronously and non-synchronously. This means some students could attend class “live” while others had to view the recordings he would make of the class, downloading each session and then uploading it to another platform so that they could “attend” at their own convenience. Since these students do not get the benefit of live discussion, my spouse would arrange a weekend Zoom session at the end of each week with the Asian students at 7 am on Sunday morning so that they could raise questions or concerns.

Whether online or in person, it is far better for everyone to be here. Plus, the directive is racist.
