WOW! Protests Rock Russian Far East With Calls for Putin to Resign
Protests Rock Russian Far East With Calls for Putin to ResignTens of thousands took to the streets in Russias usually somnolent hinterland after the arrest of a popular regional governor.
The Ministry of Interior, which controls Russias regular police forces, estimated that between 10,000 and 12,000 people had joined the protest in Khabarovsk. Local news outlets put the number at more than 40,000.
State-controlled media ignored the protests while giving extensive coverage to troubles in the United States, particularly a spike in coronavirus cases.
The focus on Americas problems instead of Russias Far East led Dmitri Alekseyev, a wealthy businessman in Vladivostok, a city east of Khabarovsk, to comment on Facebook that it seems I am living in the U.S.A.

(15,325 posts)Putin was pissed at Sec State Clinton when she encouraged the Russian people to rise up against Putin in favor of Democracy.
That took some guts on her part, & probably had something to do with Putin's all out smear campaign against her in 2016.
But looking at this protest I have to applaud her as well for speaking to an oppressed Russian society, living under a fascist dictator.
With that, she has earned herself my personal Joan of Arc award for human rights around the world.
Human Rights is what she has always stood boldly for.

I've disliked Zhirinovsky for many years longer than I've disliked Putin. (And I was cutting-edge in disliking Putin. He wasn't even elected yet the first time and I disliked him.)

(15,325 posts)You know Trump will not hesitate to break the back of our rights, as Putin & every dictator hero of his has done.
This is the direction he's been gradually moving America all along..

I hate going down that road, but looking at the timeline of unimaginable events he has weilded upon America so far, I'm not able to dismiss the idea.
Throughout history, reading the gradual progression of how Democracies fell, we are on course.
