(119,123 posts)Memo to MAGA and all its myriad fellow-travelers: Maybe Death of a Salesman as presented by Leni Riefenstahl just wasnt the show Americans were dying to tune into this season.
And, while were at it, maybe turning your party over to Generalissimo Walter Mitty, his hideous scheming spawn, and the studio audience from Hee-Haw was not just absolutely aces as a political strategy.
Think on it, Cletus. I know this whole thing still sounds like your idea of a good time hows that working out for you?

(6,569 posts)I think it was an insult to apes.
I think your average chimp, gorilla, bonobo, or orangutan would have more common sense than that thing that left the Oval Office.

(22,502 posts)WFB would have been appalled that his Conservative movement was coopted by Trump.
To me, Buckley was a confusing montage. He was extremely intelligent and erudite. He was profoundly prolific as a writer of both fact and fiction. He loved sailing and adventure. His racism and conservatism were horrifying yet his humor and willingness to engage in debate were admirable.
I've read all of his spy novels and his books on sailing. He made an excellent video on using a sextant to navigate at sea. His newspaper columns were fascinating even though I usually disagreed with his point of view. His TV interviews were riveting and infuriating.
He was a unique man and he would never have endorsed Trump for anything.
