GOP points out we should judge Obama on his record. But they never suggest we judge them on theirs.

Today on ABC's 'This Week' George Stephanopoulus interviewed John Boehner and Nancy Pelosi. Boehner again mentioned Obama should be judged on his record. But Speaker Boehner and all the GOP are entirley too modest about their own record.

In fact to listen to them you wouldn't know they have a recoerd. But they were in Washington the last three years. And yes, they have had an impact on what legislation gets passed.... really!

To start with almost before Obama walked into the White House the GOP declared their primary objective was to make Obama a one term president. This meant a continuationof the Republican notion of politics as WAR - and a take no prisoners one at that.

When Obama proposed his first stimulus bill the GOP demanded as price for their cooperation (note that the GOP had established themselves as filibusterers extraordinaire and Obama knew full well that a stimulus delayed would be like a stimulus denied). Taking too much time to pass a stimulus would only let the Trickle Down Disastered Economy only slide lower. So Obama, ever the compromiser, offered up a stimulus bill downsized a third by converting about 30+% of the spending into tax cuts. (note that after Obama gave the Republicans what they wanted he got exactly one Republican vote for the ARRA)

Now, as anybody knows, a tax cut at the outset of a recession (or depression) isn't going to produce spending when everybody is worried about whether or how long they will have a job. Peopler aren't going to spend any tax cut they get. They will save it or pay down their debt. The end result is the same: no stimlus from tax cuts at the beginning of a downturn. Thus a stimulus downsized by about a third: score one for the Disloyal Opposition!

Then there were all the cuts to Government programs the GOP demanded to trim the deficit (the GOP finally got religion re the Deficit after a couple years ago saying "Deficits don't matter" ... that was back when they were creating this deficit). some of these cuts lead to layoffs on the state and local levels of policemen, firemen, teachers and other public servants. The Wall Street Journal said in an article that these cuts resulted in the Unemployment rate being about 1 percentage point higher than it would have been without these cuts. Score another one for the Disloyal Opposition.

Then there was the threat to default on Government debt which gave businesses a good scare leading them to be much more cautious with hiring plans. In fact, non financial corporations are so cautious they are sitting on a $1.2 Trillion cash hoard. Certainly the uncertainty brought about by a disfunctional Government as manifested by the GOP's apparent willingness to cause our Government to default on it's obligations last fall, has had an impact on business's willingness to commit to new hires and expansion. And this has had an impact on the unemployment rate and the recovery of the economy. Score another for the Disloyal Opposition.

Yes, the GOP has a record too. It's a record of fighting The Democrats at everything they have been trying to do to fix the disaster the Republicans created. It's a record of doing everything they can to see that Obama does not succeed and becomes a one term president. It's a record that should not be overlooked.

Though I haven't actually heard much about the wonderful future they have in store.
Mainly I hear about how they will just cut all government services and hand over all our money to a handful of super rich along with eliminating abortion and science education.

Hard to see how that convinces people to vote Republican but it does for nearly half the country.
