Judges are being shown 'grisly' videos of MAGA mob dragging Capitol cops that have yet to be seen by public
One of the most serious cases of violence against Capitol Police officers during the January 6th MAGA riots has flown mostly under the radar -- and it reportedly involves "grisly" footage that has never been seen by the public or the media.
CNN reports that body camera videos from officers who were beaten and dragged by Trump supporters during the riots at the United States Capitol building are being used by prosecutors to argue that at least five accused rioters should not be released ahead of their trials.
"In several court hearings in recent weeks, prosecutors have rolled out as at least four video clips, with most taken from the police officers' body camera footage, to convince judges... of the severity of the danger," reports CNN. "As each of the defendants have been processed, some of the videos have been shown multiple times, to different judges, or to highlight the actions of each defendant." ...........(more)

(702 posts)I used to think camera's everywhere would be bad...I never dreamed it would actually help
save some small portion of our nation. I never dreamed we would have to defend ourselves
from the police.

Wow.. We're not gonna survive this.

Presentation of evidence to TAKE AWAY a person's FREEDOM has to be very strong. It is not enough to simply say someone was there to hold them in jail and take away their freedom before they have been tried.
Don't forget that the US criminal justice system is based on the presumption of innocence.

Gave the day, the date, the time, and the place for the violent overthrow of our elections
on multiple invites to the people who made up the insurrectionist mob including a "come
and go wild" quote.
Paid for part of "it" with Trump campaign funds.
Had a pre-riot party and then a pep talk to the mob.
Decapitated the D.C. National Guard prior to the riot.
Had his chief of staff Nick Mulvaney's niece fill out the paperwork for the permits.
Refused to send help after Rep. McCarthy and V.P. President called him for help.
After >100 cops were hurt, 5 people dead, 30 million in damage to the Capitol and its grounds, and
God only knows what he told the racist rioters that "he loved 'em."

(7,434 posts)Obama would be in jail. NOW. Or worse.
Each passing day that Trump is free and unencumbered by federal and state prosecutions is another day that gives us reason to suspect that NOT ONE prosecution office will indict, arrest, or present Trump with subpoenas. It looks more and more like Trump is untouchable, that he'll NEVER have to account for his treasonous actions. Never.
It looks like the threat of ultra-right civil unrest is what's keeping the justice system at bay. PLEASE, someone, prove me wrong.

You watch "they" will go for the diminished mental capacity defense for Trump when the bills come due.
BTW the key to Trump's political strength is racism nothing more and nothing less.

(3,922 posts)America is watching itself implode.
Not only are the seditious scum in our House and Senate apparently not accountable for their actions on and leading to the January 6th insurrection, but the con man who started the whole thing is living La Dolce Vita in his mansion.
Meanwhile, the scum continues to throw out more red meat to their brain-dead followers.
Is there any hope anymore?

(9,500 posts)Because there very likely will be a "next time". And it probably will be done more competently then what this was, because the one saving grace in all of this is that the former guy surrounded himself with incompetent sycophants.
Eyeball_Kid
(7,434 posts)We have to get resolution first. We have to determine whether Trump will have to defend himself in Court on criminal and federal charges, as well as state charges. NOTHING IS HAPPENING that we can see. I think that the January 6 events have to be resolved FIRST before we prepare for next time.

(16,543 posts)I'm as troubled as the next person about some of the things that have happened in this country, particularly in the last 4 or 5 years (i.e., the "rise" of Chump and his time in office). But the gloom and doom can be way overdone around here sometimes.
I just keep thinking about how things that are repeated often enough can become self-fulfilling prophecies. And I'm too old and ornery to give up so easily.

(11,572 posts)I suppose the argument would be made that it would contaminate the pre-trial jury pool(s), but they will almost surely see them in due course. Maybe, in one way, it's better to not release them early. Wouldn't want to desensitize people to the violence.
