Morning Open Thread- The Wife Got It - Breakthru Case: Boosters Anyone? D. Kos

- Daily Kos, Sept. 3, 2021. Excerpts:

My wife woke Tuesday morning to violent shaking from internal chills. The thermometer read “low grade fever” 100.2. She was parched and absorbed a bottle of water with an added Emergen-C (vitamin, mineral, powder packet). She was dressed in her winter flannels (not a good sign for the last day of August). “I don’t feel good”, she feebly uttered.

I suggested she call her sister-in-law to drive her to get a Covid test. The two women waited together until the results returned from the (where ever they send those swabs). She called me to tell me she tested positive for the virus. “I’ll be home when you get off work,” she sobbed. When I got home she was bundled in the bed. She had an arsenal of items on the night stand to survive the day. My brilliant wife was taking control of her health. I ran every errand she asked of me. We prepared for Wednesday, Thursday, everyday of our future.

She was scheduled to get an infusion the next day. That appointment was mismanaged by some ditz that can’t get off her personal phone long enough to make a life or death… someone.

My wonderful wife was on the phone getting things done (while I was at work) yesterday. She has her appointment at 7:15 this morning. I will have to drive her so I will miss much of the MOT. However, I shall return. I”ll let you all know what the results of the infusion are like for her. My wife is now a “Break through” case. She will be fine and with some benefits. Life is full of surprises. What are yours?...

- I am sorry. She should be fine, but this stresses the importance of getting the booster shot ASAP. Socks and I are getting ours this morning, even though it has *only* been seven months since our double dose last winter. This stresses the importance of not letting one’s guard down, even for a moment. We are back to double masking and wearing safety glasses if one of us absolutely must go into a store.

- I heard from the virologist I follow on Twitter about how getting a 3rd booster ASAP is critical, especially with the Pfizer vaccine like I got. (Modernas last a bit longer.) I’m going to try to get mine as soon as they’ll let me.

- An older couple from Savannah, GA. called last night. Both had the Moderna (double shots) & their son had the J&J vaccine. They have all tested positive with the Delta variant. Two had the infusion & recovered in hours after the time spent at the med office. My older friend couldn’t get in for the infusion, he “toughed it out” for 7 days & made a full recovery. He has since tested negative (after 2 weeks quarantine). There is hope and good news ahead.

- AUTHOR Please get the booster!. This virus doesn’t play favorites. Wife was scheduled for her booster Next Friday. Our area is RED HOT, so no visiting for any of you. I’ll let her know of everyone’s concerns.

- We have an appointment to get the booster this morning. It is deadly serious business. They don’t know for sure how long the first two shots last before immunity begins to wane. At first they were talking about a year, then eight months. Now they didn’t blink when we told them we wanted it NOW.
We got the strong senior version of the flu shot yesterday. The doctoral level pharmacist said the Covid vaccine (Pfizer) will not have a negative interaction with the flu shot.

- My booster appointment is coming up on Wednesday. It’s been only five months since my second shot, but I don’t want to take a chance with an autoimmune condition.

Why not stay home and isolate, get tested, so as not to infect others? If you’re living in the same household as the sick person, while vaccinated, you’re still possibly contagious to others, should you as well, have a breakthrough case.
