The peril of Trump keeps growing nearly 8 months after he left the White House

The peril of Trump keeps growing nearly 8 months after he left the White House
Analysis by Stephen Collinson, CNN

"Add another evidence dump to the growing case that a second Donald Trump presidency would be more extreme and dangerous than the first.
...snip...
As Trump teases another run at the White House, his behavior and new accounts of his wild final days in office are becoming too outlandish to ignore, given that he's already the prohibitive favorite for the Republican nomination. Before that, he's the tip of the spear of the GOP bid to retake the House in midterm elections next year. The price for entry for any party candidate is fealty to the flagrant lie sold to millions that Trump is still the rightful President. And he's undoubtedly the dominant force in Republican politics -- even if his ever more radical conduct may make his appeal in a national election more doubtful. At least in an election that is free and fair.

The disclosures in Woodward and Costa's "Peril" are among the most serious and alarming yet. If they are borne out, they would not just be a case of a President tearing at the structures of US democracy -- as he did with the US Capitol insurrection on January 6, designed to disrupt Biden's certification as the winner of November's election. But they also would represent a sign that the nation's most senior military officer believed Trump was a grave danger to the world in the fevered days when he was trying to cling to power.

..snip...
There is a definite sense -- borne out by five years of scandals, crushing of presidential norms and evidence of the political damage that an out-of-control President can do -- that what doesn't kill Trump's political career makes it stronger."

----
more at the link-- a good article discussing the danger that Trump and his enablers in the GOP pose to the nation. This goes beyond political differences to a threat to the American political system itself.

Into fascism. And the sooner we realize that and prepare for it, the better prepared we will be when the inevitable happens.

They are here now. They are a threat now. "Preparing" is a backward view. It is now time to deal with them. Sitting back and clucking at their machinations will be the end of us all.

The US is already in a state of war against itself. If Democrats don't name it for what it is, then it will spread.

1. GOP + Right Wing Media = Axis of Evil
2. Challenge to elected GOP & Right Wing Media = If you're not with us, then you're against us.

Similar to the Taliban, the GOP only needs to "win" once to bring about the disaster. Those who push Trump's Big Lie must be declared enemy combatants. I don't l know how to do this, but I know it must be done, even if it's not done perfectly.

Truth is he’s shrinking. He has no real power anymore. His influence is waning. His base is shrinking. His brand is in the toilet. His businesses are gasping for air. His treasonous magats are being imprisoned. His acolytes are losing elections. His lawyers are losing everything. Trump was a nightmare of a novelty act. A few more embarrassing moments and the GOP ought exile him if they hope to survive. But then, these Republicans aren’t the brightest. So much losing.

5. Agree trump is 'shrinking'. However, even just 30% support is nothing to sneeze at,

especially considering the huge amounts of 'dark money' that would like to and probably does support him.

As Jefferson said, 'the merchant has no country'. Big corporate executive are accustomed to dealing with all sorts of governments, dictators, unstable political situations.

Not for nothing that trump seeded the top echelons with billions and billions, when he could.

If, and it's a big IF, the GOP takes back the House and with gerrymandering, the census results, and the usual cycle of the opposition party gaining seats in the midterms, that is a real possibility, THEN Trump will probably insist on becoming Speaker. As Speaker of the House he would cause all kinds of mischief and would present a clear and present danger to the Republic.

from day 1 setting things up so that he stays in office until he dies. And maybe he even tries to set something up that his daughter takes over then

Maybe we should start demanding that students learn how fascism comes to a country. For too long we, including me, never thought that it could happen here. Now I know it can
