Why Sane Republicans Are Self-Deporting Themselves

Anthony Gonzalez leaves no doubt about what he thinks about Donald Trump and his impact on the GOP. The former president, he says, is like a “cancer,” and he has turned his party into a toxic and hostile environment.

“I don’t believe he can ever be president again,” he said.

But if Trump is the one supposedly headed for the exit, why is it Gonzalez who announced he would not seek reelection?

-snip-

The answer is Gonzalez didn’t quit because he feared he couldn’t win, but because it just wasn’t worth it anymore. Winning, it turns out, is not winning if the prize feels a lot more like a loss.

In the Bhagavad Gita, Arjuna basically says the same, "Winning, it turns out, is not winning if the prize feels a lot more like a loss."

Arjuna, the great, world-renown warrior, is front and center on the battlefield, facing the opposing team before the battle begins.
(There was chivalry in those days; the conches had not yet sounded.)

Arjuna sees arrayed against him on the other side, his family, friends, teachers...and Arjuna, the leader of his army, falters.
Now realize, Arjuna has been building up to this moment for 13 years; he wants revenge upon his tormentors.
His cousins were essentially the magats of the day. The battle at Kurukshetra was an ancient world war of uncomfortable alliances.

But now Arjuna is crumbled to the floor of the chariot, his bow cast aside, and he is asking fundamental questions.
"What's it all about, Alfie?"
