Trump's new interviews and appearances show that a storm is brewing
Trump was in the middle of a fact-free rant about "vicious" Democrats cheating on elections when he said "they're destroying our country. Our country will not survive this. Our country will not survive." Then he sniffed and shifted to immigration, saying "look at where they're coming from," clearly mimicking the "great replacement theory" talking points that Tucker Carlson has been mainlining into homes across the country.
These are all signs of the gathering storm. Trump's incessant lies about the last election (Biden "didn't get 81 million votes, there's no way," he told OAN) pose obvious threats to future elections. The so-called "Stop the Steal" movement is "racing forward," ignoring the Arizona audit "humiliation," the NYT pointed out over the weekend.
Most of us can feel the instability in the air the same way a weather forecaster can feel a storm coming on. News outlets need to be providing storm warnings -- but some are ignoring the threat. That's what my opening essay on Sunday's "Reliable Sources" telecast was about. Anti-democratic talking points are being paraded across networks like Newsmax, and averting one's eyes doesn't make the parade go away...

I wonder what powerful Dems know and what they plan to do about it.

I don't understand why Biden does not increase the number of judges in the Supreme Court, nullify the fanatics in the court to prevent them from doing more damage. I believe that Amy Coney Barrett is manipulated by her husband, somehow I don't think she has the power of independent decision making, from what I have read, she is the closest thing to a Stepford wife.

(2,150 posts)They have a non-stop propaganda machine: We do not.
They vote and stay on the same message 99.9% of the time: We do not.
They use every obscure or outdated law to get their way: We do not.
They abandoned bi-partisanship years ago: We still hold hope that they will change.
They are fighting a war: We try to negotiate with people who cannot be negotiated with.
I think we've given it a fair try but it's now time to stop playing games with these treasonous fascists. This is not a game.

(2,150 posts)Trump-GOP succeeds in what they are trying to do. I'm talking about being able to back up what we say without being bullied and bullshitted by extremist thugs. I'm talking about enforcing the rules and holding the rule breakers accountable and making them eat the consequences of their actions.
We've been trying to play by the Marquis of Queensbury rules for years while repeatedly getting kicked in the groin. If we want to keep the rules we may want to try defending them more aggressively rather than tying one arm behind our backs before a fist fight.

(16,911 posts)when talking to who claimed to be an independent voter said something about the stolen election, so I asked
him where the proof was since over 60 lawsuits were thrown out of court for lack of evidence by republican
judges. Someone I didn't know overheard me and the next think I knew everyone there (minus 2) were
screaming red faced at me and hinting at what needs to be done to "my kind". Yes we need to be aware of the
anger the reQublicOns are holding on to. If Qrumpie gives them marching orders it will be a sad day in this
country.

No because it will be his country before it's all over if he has his way.

(38,365 posts)...Trump can say what he wants...too stupid to do the right thing..."just shut up"...Nixon knew, he shut up...Trump
is much to stupid...and his talking will partially destroy the Puke Party..
.............Some leaders of the Pukes...will tell him publicly to ..."Shut Up" and when those leaders do..and talk to him
privately and tell him how much he is destroying the party....then....maybe Trump will shut up...MAYBE.
Another idea: Trump doesn't give a S**T ABOUT ANYONE BUT HIMSELF....even after being told, to shut up........
.....................there is a great deal pointing to....TRUMP WON'T SHUT UP FOR ANY REASON...

(10,811 posts)They're never going to stop unless we stop them, hold them legally and financially responsible for what they've done to the country, what they're plotting still. Which, btw, is to burn the house down, then reshape it in their own bloated image, a corrupt autocracy/oligarchy/ authoritarian realm where everything is open to plunder bc regulations and silly laws are so yesterday, where propaganda and disinformation are the only thing you hear/read and any complaint gets you a prison sentence or worse.
Think Putin, the MAGA/Trump exemplar, who has the gall to refer to Russia's democratic elections as proof that they are a free society. As long Putin wins, of course. We know what happens to dissenters particularly those who have a following. Navalny, for instance or all those Russian officials, professionals and actual journalists who strangely fall out of windows or are simply gunned down in their apartments.
Anything that sounds like protest ensures a premature death.
They'll need their scapegoats, too, because all authoritarian regimes need someone to blame for their various failures. History tells us how that works out.
This is what we're looking at if Trump and his accomplices have their way, a national criminal enterprise posing as a government.
A smoldering ruin.
They must be prosecuted.
