Dozens Of Massachusetts State Police Have Resigned Over A Vaccine Mandate, Union Says

- NPR, Sept. 27, 2021.

Dozens of Massachusetts State Police troopers have put in their resignation papers following the state's COVID-19 vaccine mandate, the State Police Association of Massachusetts said.

Under Gov. Charlie Baker's executive order issued last month, all executive department employees are required to show proof of vaccination on or before Oct. 17, or they will be fired.

"It is unfortunate that the Governor and his team have chosen to mandate one of the most stringent vaccine mandates in the country with no reasonable alternatives," State Police Association President Michael Cherven said in a statement.

Chervin said the troopers should have "reasonable alternatives" to being required to get vaccinated such as wearing masks and being tested regularly.

Last week, a state judge denied a request from the state's police union to block the governor's vaccine mandate for troopers, according to WBZ-TV. The police union's attorneys told the local broadcaster that up to 20% of state police employees remain unvaccinated.

With the judge's ruling, unvaccinated troopers were only given a few days to get their first vaccine dose or they could face disciplinary action, WBZ reported. ~

So vaccines for other things was okay, for smallpox, the flu, etc., but not for a proven killer SWBTATTReg Sep 2021 #24

Not painting all troopers here, but the culture at the corps is corrupt to the core. These yo-yo's are probably among the worst of the bunch. Good riddance.

I call it the corp because thats what they call it. They are intentionally patterned after a military structure. They really don't like the idea of civilian control, and really see themselves as separate from the state government.

New blood will help.

Note: My personal interactions with them have found them to be courteous and professional. But I have a neighbor who is a high level state trooper and I have serious doubts about their character. We also had one statie, who parked his marked cruiser at his house, who put up the effigy of a black man in a noose for halloween one year.

SState police and also large suburban police forces, as big farm country gets populated. County forces there are big, and act like state police.

If those cops have that little regard for public safety, they shouldn't have careers in law enforcement. Let them find something else to do---try the nearest morgue.

Instead of 4 cop cars to give a speeding ticket they'll only have 3. I hope they lose the road construction gig they've had. They are the worst. Stand wherever they please in the middle of the road, like they own it, using their hands to signal traffic. I've got great distance vision, and can't tell when their hand is motioning to stop or go. Used to be flags were used, and they mostly stood on the side of the road. Let them take their attitudes and walk away. They can go join a militia in Idaho.

They are making two very bad decisions in a row.

Shows they should not have a position of responsibility and authority over other people.
