Mocking Unvaxxed COVID Victims Is the New Pandemic Blood Sport

“At this point, I’m confident in saying I’ve done as much research on COVID Anti-vaxxers as anyone in the world. There’s one attribute that every single one of them share. They are all idiots.”

That’s a tweet by the anonymous proprietor of Sorryantivaxxer.com, posted on Sept 15. The website is indeed likely the most comprehensive repository of one type of now-familiar COVID story: the one where someone who criticized the vaccine ends up dead or hospitalized due to the virus (it’s a story news outlets like The Daily Beast have published). And these stories appear to have plenty of readers: According to the site’s own counters, each post earns views numbering in the tens of thousands and comments in the hundreds—respectable traffic numbers for an independent site.

First and last names, and faces of the deceased, are prominent on the site, as is editorializing from the proprietor, who is especially hard on people with goatees, an established cultural signifier for working-class conservatism. “Unvaccinated with a goatee like that... he didn’t stand a chance,” reads a post about one person who appears to have died on Sept. 21 and won’t be named here.

There’s no link to a news article and the information is sourced from the individual’s old social-media posts, along with the posts of friends. It features the deceased’s dismissive jokes and antagonistic quips online about the safe and effective vaccine and its advocates, including a right-wing fever dream in which Anthony Fauci instructs obliging members of the public to wear dildos on their heads. Comments number in the hundreds and, of course, readers add dildo quips of their own.

Posts on the site are coming in at a furious rate. The average number of daily coronavirus deaths in America has spiked back above 2,000 and the vast majority involve people who are not vaccinated. On this particular unvaxxed death repository, the newest deaths added are usually very recent, with each case having occurred within the last 48 hours or so. The effect is a relentless parade of dead faces, usually shown in happier moments, arms around loved ones, smiling from beyond the grave.

A place to put our frustrations. And it is frustrating, watching these people put themselves and others they know at risk.

I think some people are so dug into their beliefs about the vaccine that they simply don't believe people die of covid, and they don't see or read the news reports because the ones that accurately report the situation are outside their right-wing news bubble. Deaths of people they know are attributed to something else. Shaming stupid dead people might make us feel righteous but it's not changing a lot of minds.

For one thing, one must possess a mind before it can be changed.

I'm not going to shed any tears if mindless globs of people-shaped protoplasm die from willful stupidity.

If the anti-vaxxers were the only ones dying from their stupidity, that would be one thing. But they are infecting and killing innocents by the thousands---and for that, no amount of vilification is out of bounds. Fuck them all.

Curious if I'll eventually see someone that I recognize.

Like the guy casually looking down through the glass bottom of his car in this old Tex Avery "Car of Tomorrow" cartoon, after the 50-second mark.

we are not an endangered species. We just endanger all the others. So I am hard pressed to feel to awfully sorry for people who, in theory, have been gifted with awareness and critical thought and fail to use it.

It might not change their minds, but the sheer immensity of the death database is difficult to argue with, and may give pause to casual observers of any particular social media exchange.

I take no joy from reading that site, but I’m grateful for its existence.

readers. (Yes, the article does go there!)

I see a lot of references and links to stupid anti-vaxxer statements, but no articles like this that analyze them and their "smugness" and that have philosophers weighing in to call them "mean-spirited, cruel or creepy."

Personally, I think people who are willfully spreading the virus are a lot more mean-spirited, cruel and creepy than those who are observing the inevitable deaths of those who are willfully spreading the virus.

This is kind of like the interviews with the red-hats in diners. The press, even the liberal press, does tend to slant things to the perspective of the dumbasses among us.

spread that crap everywhere, and they're the ones who disrupt actual vaccination sites and School Board meetings ... the people mocking them are, as some put it 'keyboard warriors". At least what they do is specifically targeted at these idiots Facebook pages.

One side sows actual death and chaos, the other side just points and laughs at their literally fatal stupidly ... they are not the same.

Trust me, if Ben Garrison ends up dying from covid-19, I'm mocking the hell out of him ....

How many did they infect before they died of the "hoax"?
They aren't innocent. For example the nurse who told her family not to get vaccinated as she took her last breath.
Or the nurse who worked with Covid patients since the pandemic began but refused to get vaccinated.
This is total insanity. They take medical advice from facebook memes and Fox.
We know the media loves bothsiderism, but this is absurd to be taking the side of Tucker Carlson & Covid.
These folks - many previously survived cancer & heart attacks trusting medical care, but they didn't trust the vaccine thanks to TFG's echo chamber so now they are dead.
Thank you to Vaxman for setting up the webpage.
